In 1995, a group of students gathered in the
living room of Dr. Howard and began an educational adventure that would lead them into places unknown. The thought that a
small home school co-op would develop into a fully accredited private school did not exist. In the following years, Texas
Preparatory Academy would go from infancy to where it is today.
After nearly 15 years, Texas Prep has grown into a place where students of all kinds receive the
opportunity to fine tune their individual talents. From the living room in Friendswood, to the upstairs of 703 West Sealy
Street, to it's current location at 715 West Adoue Street, this small private school has been the heart and soul of it's founder,
Dr. Julie Howard.
Classrooms still have that home school feel with individual
attention to each student's needs. Learning differences are met with unique teaching techniques with a student-teacher ratio
of 10 to 1. Global Learners are welcome and hands-on techniques are used daily to facilitate each student with the most efficient
and thorough teaching methods.
Dr. Howard is a Social and Behavioral Psychologist who specializes in Autistic Spectrum Disorders;
Optic Nerve Disfunctions; Hearing Impairments; and Behavior Abnormalities. She is currently back in school to earn her doctorate
in Naturopathy and Orthomolecular Psychology, as well as, becoming a certified health specialist. Her philosophy is simple...
follow the Golden Rule.
Many times the students of Texas Prep have to endure negative comments about their school, ranging from "it is not accredited","it's
NOT a REAL school", "Texas Prep is for the bad kids", " you can't get into college" just to name a few. However, each year
that Texas Prep continues to strive for excellence in each student that crosses it's threshold, it gains one more milestone
in a teen's life.
