The Tenmile Fire Department was organized on March 2, 1962 by a group of dedicated volunteers. Officers elected at that time were Don Hinch, Jr. President; Mrs. Bill Cook, Treasurer; John Anderson, Secretary; Ted Benedict, Fire Chief; Roy Willis, Assistant Fire Chief; Chuck McDaniel and Lynn Lengeie, Captiains; Dick Gaster, Clare Coates and Ronny Willis, drivers.

Money necessary to buy the trucks and equipment was raised through donations and ice cream socials along with house-to-house canvassing. Ted Benedict, 1962
