ourhistory

In the beginning, a group of twenty-nine dedicated men and women met in April 1969 to organize what is known today as Temple Beth Shalom and Jewish Community Center of the Northwest Valley.  In December 1971, Rabbi Albert A. Michels of blessed memory became our spiritual leader.  Shabbat services were conducted at the Fairway Recreation Center and, as we grew, moved to Sundial auditorium.

On April 24, 1977, the laying of the cornerstone to our building was celebrated. Upon retirement of Rabbi Michels, Rabbi Bernard Kligfeld became our spiritual leader in 1982.

Our growth in membership and activities generated a need for building expansion.  Major building reconstruction was completed in 1989.

Temple Beth Shalom has become the Northwest Valley campus of the Phoenix Bureau of Jewish Education.

In 2005 Rabbi Arthur J. Abrams retired and Rabbi Shelly Moss succeeded him.
