Stories of Grief after Sept 11

Tell Us Your Story "The world will never be the same." How often, since September 11, have we heard these words! We are clearly relearning how to coexist and interact within and across national borders. We are living in and seeking to fathom the meanings of quite unexpected chapters of national, cultural, and world histories. Understandably, media fix on global concerns. |
There is another complementary stream of stories, less often told or understood.
Many of you who visit this website are living such stories. Surely global events are significant precisely because they profoundly affect the unfolding of so many personal stories. Why not commit your stories to writing? Explore their meanings. Bolster your resolve to learn from your experiences. Deepen your understanding of yourself, your family, or your community. Share your gratitude for a friend, or a stranger, who lent a hand. (Click here for ideas about writing your story.)
Preserve what you have vowed never to forget. Return to these written memories often to refresh your appreciation of the courage, faith, hope, goodness, connection with others, healing, and inspiration they contain. Share your story with others. Offer your hand to others as you do. Use this website to tell how you have been relearning the world since September 11. Tell us what it has been like to
Offer your story as a reflection of life in the human condition. Affirm something of what matters most to you. Encourage others on their journeys in grief. (Click here for information about submitting your story.)
Whether or not you share a story here, why not return to this website regularly (and invite family and friends to do the same)? Encourage others to send in their stories. Read the stories that visitors tell. Honor the story-tellers and the meanings they affirm. Learn from their stories about the challenges and opportunities of relearning the world. Or find support on your own journey in grief.
New stories will be posted on this page each month, and previously posted stories will be archived on the site. When enough stories come in, Dr. Attig will seek authors' permission to include them in a collection and seek to publish them.
