The Mantis is an 8-foot high freestanding metal sculpture with piercing eyes, sharp claws and spit spewing from the Mandible. This piece was created from metal found in the fields of farms and constructed at the Madagascar Institute by Albert Guitjens and Tara Fire Ball in the Fall of 2001.
The Mantis was commisioned and installed at the HIVE space in NYC for the Insect event November 2001 and Super Heroes Super Villains in December 2001.
The Mantis will be part of revolving Outdoor Art Installation for the NYC streets titled INterSECTion.
