Overview:Jin brutally attacks Michael and only he and Sun know why. Jack wants the survivors to move to the caves with the water but encounters resistance from Sayid and Kate. Quotes:If you guys are finished verbally copulating, we should get a move on. - Charlie Pace Oh, someone left this. (Hands Kate her shirt) Summary:On Lostaway beach, Sun is examining a flower while Jin is in a tide pool attempting to grab a fish. Jack, Kate and Charlie are packing water bottles into backpacks. Locke is waiting nearby. Kate is joking with Jack about his tattoos but Charlie hurries them along, saying the people on the beach are waiting for them to bring back water. The four of them leave. Jin throws a fish down next to Sun, startling her. She picks up the flower again and stares into the distance.
Back in the present, Jin is angry about something. He charges across the beach towards Michael, who he tackles into the surf and starts beating. Sun, Walt and other onlookers yell. Sayid and Sawyer wade into the surf and drag Jin off of Michael. Sayid yells for the marshal's handcuffs and Sawyer throws them to him. They handcuff Jin to a piece of wreckage. Michael has no idea why Jin attacked him and when Sayid asks Sun she of course says nothing. Jack, Kate, Charlie and Locke arrive at the caves Jack discovered. Charlie asks Jack how he found the caves and Jack says it was luck. He then sees the plane wreckage nearby and suggests looking through it for useful items. Everyone says it is a good idea. When the others are busy filling the water bottles, Charlie goes a short distance away from the caves and pulls out his bag of drugs. Locke suddenly appears and tells him to stop moving. Charlie starts to say something but Locke points out that he is standing on a beehive. If he moves, it will split open. Jack and Kate arrive and ask what they should do. Locke tells them to get something to cover the beehive with. They rush off while bees begin buzzing around Charlie's face. Back at the beach, Sayid is still trying to find out why Jin attacked Michael. Michael continues to insist that he didn't do anything and says that in the US Korean people don't like black people. Sun points to her wrist, apparently referring to the handcuffs. Sayid says that until they find out why Jin attacked Michael, they will leave Jin handcuffed to the wreckage. Everyone leaves except Sun, who stays with Jin.
Back at the cave, Jack has brought a suitcase which he plans to cover the beehive with. Suddenly, a bee lands on Charlie's face and he slaps at it. The beehive cracks open and bees pour out. Everyone runs, Charlie and Locke into the jungle and Jack and Kate into the cave. Jack and Kate pull their shirts off, swatting away at bees. Jack runs towards the back of the cave while Kate runs into a side opening. She suddenly stops, then backs away from the body lying on a slab of rock. Jack comes over to examine the body and finds another one lying nearby. He says that there is no obvious sign of injury but that, based on the decay of their clothing, they have been there for forty or fifty years. Kate asks where they came from and Jack asks where the polar bear came from. He searches the bodies and finds a small bag on one of them. The bag contains two polished stones; one black and one white. Charlie and Locke arrive and Jack puts the stones in his pocket. Charlie gives Kate her shirt. They see the bodies and Charlie wonders aloud if these were the people who were on the island before them. Locke immediately asks what he means and Charlie, unconvincingly, says something about there maybe having been other people on the island before. Locke asks where the dead men came from and Jack corrects him saying that one of them is female. Locke refers to them as Adam and Eve. Back at the beach, Sun is rubbing something on Jin's wrist, which is raw from the handcuff. He seems angry at her attempts to help and she stops then stares into the distance.
At the caves, Jack and Kate are getting ready to go back to the beach. Locke volunteers to stay with Charlie and look through the wreckage. Jack looks around and talks about how much water the people on the beach are going to need. He says a better idea might be for everyone to move to the caves. He lists the advantages of the caves; unlimited water, trees for shade, easy to protect and so on. Kate doesn't seem to agree. Back at the beach, Walt is standing some distance away from Jin and Sun, watching them. Michael shows up and immediately demands to know what they said to Walt. Neither answer so he leads Walt away. Walt asks Michael what Jin doesn't like people like them. Michael becomes uncomfortable and says he really didn't mean that when he said it. Walt then asks what he did to get Jin mad and Michael angrily says he didn't do anything. Michael asks Walt what his mother said about him and Walt says his mother never mentioned Michael. Walt then says Michael doesn't know anything about him and Michael disagrees. Walt asks Michael to tell him when his birthday is and Michael answers. He then asks Walt when his birthday is. Walt of course doesn't know. Michael seems embarrassed and leads Walt away. Sun asks Jin to let her try to talk to the others to explain what happened. Jin angrily says they don't need to explain themselves to thieves. Sun stares into the distance.
On their way back from the caves, Kate stops to tie her shoes. She sees Jack looking in her direction and asks if he is checking her out. He denies it and says he was thinking of plans for the caves. He says they will have some difficulty convincing the people on the beach to go to the caves and Kate says he hasn't even convinced her yet. Near the caves, Charlie starts to slip off again but again Locke follows him. Locke surprises Charlie by recognizing him as the bass player for Driveshaft and admits to actually liking the band. He asks Charlie if he misses his guitar and Charlie says he does. Locke says they may still find it but Charlie says he checked it and doesn't expect to ever see it again. Locke says he will. Jack and Kate come across Sayid, who is chopping wood. They stop to talk and give him some water. Sayid explains about Jin's attack on Michael and says he will take Sun aside and try to communicate with her to find out what happened. Jack starts talking about moving to the caves and Sayid becomes angry and disagrees with him. Jack explains his reasons for wanting to move but Sayid counters that they need to stay on the beach where a boat may see them. Sayid says he isn't ready to give up yet and, taking the axe, leaves. Later, on the beach, both Jack and Sayid are approaching various groups of survivors and asking for their support. Sayid talks to Michael and apologizes for being suspicious of him that morning. The then asks Michael what his plans are and he says he plans to stay on the beach; he doesn't want to miss a boat if one comes by. Jack gives a bottle of water to Jin, who seems surprised, then talks to Hurley, who is planning to head for the caves. He also asks if Jack and Kate are moving to the caves together. Jack seems surprised but also amused by the question. Sawyer approaches Kate and asks what it is like to have both Sayid and Jack wanting her to be in their group. She rolls her eyes and he says he too is wondering which group she is planning to stay with. She asks what his plans are and he says he asked her first. Sun sees Michael walking into the woods with the axe. After a moment, she follows him. She watches him chopping wood for a moment, then stares into the distance.
Sun approaches Michael, who looks up at her suspiciously. His suspicion turns to shock when she says, in English, that she needs his help. Michael asks why she kept the fact that she spoke English a secret and she says that it is because Jin doesn't know. She says the reason he attacked Michael is that Michael is wearing her father's watch, which was given to Jin for safekeeping. Protecting the watch is a matter of honor for him. Michael asks how trying to kill him in front of his son has anything to do with honor and Sun replies that he doesn't know her father. She then says that she needs Michael's help. At the caves, Charlie is still trying to find and excuse to get away from Locke but Locke won't let him. Finally, Locke asks Charlie for his drugs. Charlie tries to pretend that he doesn't know what Locke is talking about but Locke says that Charlie will run out eventually so he may as well quit while it is his decision to do so. Locke then asks Charlie if he wants his guitar back. Charlie says he does. Locke says that he knows the island will give him something, but only if he gives the island something first. He asks again for Charlie's drugs and Charlie gives them to him. Locke then points upwards. Charlie looks and sees his guitar tangled in some vines above the cave. At the beach, Jack approaches Kate and says it is time to go. Kate says she isn't going; she doesn't want to be Eve. Jack says no one is asking that of her and she says she just can't "dig in". Jack asks what she did to become the way she is and she, slightly angry, says that he had his chance to know and turned it down. Jack says that she knows where to find him and leaves. After he is gone, she says he knows where to find her too. Michael, carrying the axe, approaches Jin. He angrily yells that he knows what all of this is about. He says that he found the watch and didn't want to see a $20,000 watch go to waste. But, what difference does time mean on the island anyway. He swings the axe and Jin jerks away, only to find that Michael has cut the chain on the handcuffs. Michael holds the axe in Jin's face, tells him to stay away from him and his son, and leaves.
In the caves, Charlie is happily playing his guitar. Locke looks up as Jack and a group of Lostaways arrive, including Hurley, Jin and Sun. Everyone starts settling in. Hurley pulls out a CD player and turns it on. As "Are You Sure" by Willie Nelson plays, we see various shots of the survivors. Jack, Charlie, Locke, Hurley, Jin and Sun at the caves and Sayid, Sawyer, Michael, Walt and Kate around the signal fire on the beach. There is a final shot of Jack and Kate as we fade out.
