Programs for Children and Family Audiences

Combined and intertwined with these stories is a rich assortment of songs, often accompanied on a variety of folk instruments. Carol’s use of audience participation captivates her listeners and totally involves them in the story. Gesture and character impersonation add another dimension to heighten the experience.

Carol's performances and residencies provide imagery building skills, create attentive listeners, and teach language, story plots, folkways, traditions, and customs. In schools, the programs supplement existing literacy programs by supporting teachers' language arts classes.

Mountain Merriment: Tales of the Catskills, Adirondacks, and Appalachia
These humorous "tall tales," full of the dangers of mountain living, the extremes of weather, and outlandish feats of the two and four-footed inhabitants, give the listener a glimpse into the lives of the mountain men and women who lived in these mountains.

Tales of Mystery and Enchantment
Soar into the realm of fantasy with tales about a tiger who cannot seem to tell the truth, a badger with magical powers, and a most unusual squirrel who has a craving for biscuits. From Tennessee to Timbuktu to Tibet, these multicultural tales give young listeners and their families a look at and a listen to people near and far. Chosen for the universality of their message, these stories and songs celebrate the interconnectedness of people, cultures, and countries. Often using folk instruments to accompany the tales, Carol also heightens the listeners' enjoyment with opportunities for participation.

Voices of the World Village
A collage of stories from many cultures give older students and adults a glimpse into the lives of our neighbors from eight to eight thousand miles away. The stories, through their global themes, speak of life, its joys, its sorrows, its twists and turns. The tales will engage the imaginations of the audience through gesture and language rich in meaning.

Would You Like to Swing on a Star?
You can carry moonbeams home in a jar from this program of stories which celebrates the sun, moon, and stars. From Native American legends which explain the mysteries of the constellations to stories from ancient Greece and China, these tales take listeners on a journey to the Milky Way and beyond.
