Landscape

My idea of what makes a beautiful landscape was no doubt formed during my many years of living in Europe where it is hard to find views that don't include structures created by people.  There juxtaposed with new buildings are historic ones from many past centuries.  They exist in harmony with many centuries' worth of ideas from gardeners and mother nature. Even the decaying structures fuel the creative urge to paint the light falling on stone and brick.

Italy, where I spent three years, is a painting waiting to be created where ever you turn. There  is art inside and outside, depicting ideas of beauty from all art periods.

Virginia offers similar picturesque qualities with its mountains , lakes and historic cities. These two new paintings are of Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, VA.
