Artist Biography

    Susan received her formal art education at Marymount Manhattan College, where she studied both fine and commercial art. She credits Luzerne Odell for giving her a solid foundation in drawing and painting, by working from life and introducing her to the techniques in oil painting.

    Susan began her career as a free-lance and staff commercial artist in New York City. She has worked as a fine artist since1987 and has painted commissioned portraits since 1994. Her subjects for commissioned work have come from the medical, legal, judicial, political and business fields as well as families in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Her still life and landscape paintings  are in private collections throughout New York, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia. She has shown her work in juried exhibits at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Patio Azul Gallery in Arizona, the Art Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke, The Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro, VA, and in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She has displayed her paintings in over twenty solo and group gallery exhibits as well.

    Her still-life works often contain biographical elements and symbolism of a personal nature. In her portrait work she emphasizes the positive essence of her subjects and aims to impart her knowledge of the sitter's personality.

    Susan is a signature member of Knickerbocker Artists of America, artist member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, Allied Artists of America, National League of American Pen Women and is listed in Marquis Who’s Who of American Women. She lives, works and teaches in Lynchburg, Virginia.

    She is represented by  The Little Gallery ,Inc. on Smith Mountain Lake, Moneta, Virginia.
