Benjamin Herndon is first mentioned in Goochland Co., VA in 1770 when he purchased 363 acres on Licking Hole Creek from Archelaus Mitchell and settled on the land with his mother Valentine (Haley) Herndon. This land was adjacent to that of William and Ann Wade, whose daughter he would marry in 1771. His will was dated 17 May 1778 in Goochland Co., VA.
