      step-fathers (additional husband's of Tad's female ancestors) who fought for either side during the Civil War.

           Since 1997, I have been a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a patriotic, educational organization, composed of descendants of Union veterans. I am Past Commander of the Phil Sheridan Camp No. 4 of San José, California, and Past Commander & current Councilman and Signals Officer of the Department of California and Pacific. I have also served on the National Committee on History.

Captured 4 Jul 1863 and paroled 8 Jul 1863 at Vicksburg MS

      USA COLE, Martin 24th Michigan Infantry, Co. K Husband of aunt Eliza Foster Private; enlisted 9 Aug 1862 at Detroit MI; mustered in 14 Aug 1862; mustered out 30 Jun 1865 at Detroit MI. Part of the famed "Iron Brigade".

      CSA JACKSON, John M. 14th Texas Cavalry, Co. H step 3 x great-grandfather (husband of Rebecca E. Hammons) 2nd Bugler; died at Corinth, MS; buried Holly Springs, MS Confederate Cemetery. His widow later married Union veteran Alexander Oakes, by whom she became Tad's direct ancestor.
