Moved from Northampton Co., PA to Westmoreland Co., PA in 1783, member of the Reformed church and repaired to a neighboring fort several times on account of Indians. Served as a Private in the Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Emigrated from Switzerland & settled in Northampton Co., PA where he engaged in the flouring-mill business. Furnished the Revolutionary Army with flour for which he was never paid. In 1792 he removed to near the site of Manor station, where he took up a body of land, besides 600 acres of land in another portion of the township. He had five children: Henry & George who received the 600 acre tract between them; Jacob, who inherited the Manor land; Abraham, who received a tract of his father's Kentucky land; and Susan.
