The
Recycled Milking Barn
This is our newest project, a small barn for milking and
handling goats. It's 8ft x 12ft, divided into a 5ft x 8ft milking
area and a 7ft x 8ft holding pen. It's built out of mostly
recycled materials, with the exception of the back posts, the rafters
and the wall purlins. The metal posts are recycled oilfield junk,
the tin recycled (probably not for the first time) from an old barn and
the gates from bits and pieces of old livestock panels, rebar and even
the ribs from an old pop-up travel trailer. There are 3 gates -
one into the milking area, one into the holding pen and one in between
the two. All 3 swing both ways. Our milking stanchion and
the dividing fence between the two pens were made out of an old metal
bunk bed found in the dump.
