COURSE DESCRIPTION
In depth examination of issues and problems which deal with the theory and practice of
the management of telecommunications and usage of resources. Managing the aspects of data
and voice communications systems. Emphasis on issues of planning, project management,
operations, security, end-user communications costs, effective management of
telecommunications technology to meet organizational needs, managing telecommunications
professionals, costing of service, organizational structure and perspective.
This course will cover
The over all aim of this course is to provide general understanding of
Telecommunications Resources Management and Acquisitions in an enterprise environment.
At the completion of this course, student will be able to do the following:
- Provide leadership to the enterprise in the area of telecommunications.
- Develop perspective and skills to manage telecommunications effectively.
- Develop alternative ways of planning and scheduling to effectively optimize the utilization of resources.
- Plan, organize, and conduct management training briefings which enables non-technical members of the enterprise to understand vital and pertinent management principles of telecommunications, and which persuades those managers to accept the briefs recommendations.
- Monitor and record network performance and availability.
- Implement effective user support systems.
- Develop plans concerning equipment acquisitions/leasing and service costs and trade-offs involved in lease vs. purchase decisions.
- Develop procedures for detecting and recovering from network failures.
- Develop a disaster prevention and recovery plan.
- Develop a network security and access plan.
- Prepare a complete plan for network implementation and migration.
- Develop and prepare requests for proposals to facilitate comparison and acquisition of telecommunications resources.
Course Format
This course will provide instruction through a combination of lecture,
research papers, exercises, and case analysis.
Class discussion and exploration of interesting detail will be encouraged.
