CIS 361 Architecture of the Internet
and the World Wide Web
The Internet Architecture Class in Walnut Creek by Symon Chang

Introduces you to the architecture of the Internet and World Wide Web. It covers the history of the internet, the server-client paradigm, HTML (hypertext markup language), XML (extensible markup language), web site design and organization, HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol), TCP/IP, CGI (common gateway interface), server- and client-side program and script deployment, web server installation and configuration, and necessary Unix skills.

After completing this course, you will have a working knowledge of the architecture of a Web site and a familiarity with the architecture and structure of the Internet and its basic services.

You will also have an introductory knowledge of basic features and concepts related to the Internet and World Wide Web, with an emphasis specific to WWW site design, creation, and maintenance for e-commerce applications.

CIS 1 Computer Concepts and Software Systems, CIS 17 Computer Applications for Business Communications, or consent of the instructor. To take this class, you should be familiar with basic programming concepts and Windows operation. If you have any questions regarding the prerequisites for this course, please see the instructor as soon as possible.

• 10 session class, starting August 3, 1999, every Tuesday, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
• At computer lab, Golden Gate University Walnut Creek Campus
• Lecture, seminar and live demonstration
• Students are required to submit their homework weekly
• Homework assignments will be discussed in the class, and hands-on during the class session

• Create your own web site. Try to get a free web site from the Internet.
• Make sure the Web site that you selected supports ftp uploads.
• Among these free web sites, Geocities is a good choice.
• Upload all applets that you wrote onto the web site. You may use WS_FTP32 to upload your applet onto the web. If you don't have WS_FTP32 program, then download it first. The sample screen that logon WS_FTP32 to Geocities is ---->
