Welcome to the Vagts Family homepage. The above picture shows Myra and Steve with our Siberian Husky, Sasha, outside Disney World back in 1999. This is one of our most cherished pictures as Sasha is now gone. Believe it or not, Sasha even enjoyed the kennel there, though we aren't sure why. Please feel welcome to nose around and learn a little about us. We are certainly glad you stopped by.
We have friends nationwide and often can't correspond as often as we wish we could. This web site is to keep family and friends advised of happenings around the Vagts household. We'll post pictures of the kids and grand kids, and news about our extended family.
At the right, we have some links to other web sites of interest to us. The first is obviously Myra's web site. This is a new addition as we kept bumping up against our 10Mb web space limit. From there, you will now have access to a greater selection of the children's photos and those of their families. Next is Steve's web site on the "Z-100 LifeLine", an ongoing project using his aging (gracefully), Heath/Zenith Z-100 computers and a newsletter on their use. Finally, we also have links to Steve's web site discussing our favorite card games, "Pennies From Heaven" and "Krazy8". For those who may be interested, the rules are provided there. When you come visit, we'll be happy to teach you these or any of the other games we like.
This web site is a work in progress, so bear with us and we hope you'll visit often! In addition to this Home Page, the History Page will contain a history of who we are, and Family Pix Page will contain our most recent photo gallery.
Since the family continues to grow, and as we've already mentioned, we've separated their photos to their own pages and established Myra's own web site. Feel free to check these out at:

In January, 2008, we took a few days to visit Key West, while we were down in Florida visiting Steve's parents. We highly recommend visiting Key West when you get the chance. If you would like to share in our experiences, check out: Key West Trip.
We came here to the mountains to hopefully see more snow than we had seen while we were in Elizabeth City, which usually saw a fair amount (a couple of inches) each winter. We've even seen as much as 8" in a single storm! Reportedly, Asheville averages from 12"-20" in a season, and they even used to harvest the ice in the winters (in those days before refrigeration), and keep it in ice houses! Which reminds us of a recent cartoon... "Winter Ice". Steve, still a schoolboy at heart, still thinks of snow all the time... "Snow". That doesn't mean that we never get any... "Christmas '03", but in the four winters that we've been here, we've seen a rather disappointing 5" total!
We are also in our second year of drought! If it wasn't for the remnants of the occasional tropical storm that fortunately passed over, we would be in really serious trouble. Behind by 10" of rainfall by October, Steve has been spending hours weekly watering our gardens, but we also worry that our well may dry up. When we do get the occasional thunderstorm, however, the rolling thunder is just phenomenal - it just echoes back and forth off the mountains and may last a full minute at a time!
While we enjoy all the seasons here in Hendersonville, perhaps the best season is Fall, and we are just minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway. This area sees some fantastic fall colors throughout October. See "Myra on the Parkway" and "Steve on a ridge" taken in 2006. If you can take the time to visit, our door is always open!
