at the 6994th. By the way, the "dash L" was a Japanese Lingy. I was also there in 1962
with Det 1, 2nd ADVON 6925th (Zobel's Zombies)when we set up a site which later became
the 6924th.

I spent all of 1972 at Det. 2 (Danang) as a 207X1 (EC47 X-Operator). I have not been in
touch with many of my friends during that era but would love to.
I was good friends with Todd Melton, Peter Cressman and Joe Matejov who as you know were
on the fateful 5 February 1973 incident over Laos. May God
bless them! Thanks for the wonderful web site!
You've brought many memories back.

Comments on 30-Dec-98 07:22 AM:
Hello Steve and all you visitors. Steve had been to my site before and when he got this one airborne, dropped me a note. Sure glad he did, he has linked to my site and I have a link back to this site.
I have received overwhelming response to my site, "The EC-47 History Site", this year, I have had 16,520 visitors to date with 64 different foreign countries, some with over 50 visits from each, and I can see the same growth and interest in this site. I hope you as visitors to this site can help Steve to "spread the word about this site, and mine", we are both trying to re-unite as many of the old friends as possible.
My tour in Nam, was 1966/67 as a Flight Mechanic on the EC-47. I was in fact part of a flight crew that ferried from Grenier Field New Hampshire to Tan Son Nhut, about the 6th EC-47 to arrive in country in the summer of 1966. The "Mission" Aircrew consisted of the aircraft flight crew and the Specialized "Back End Crew" as they were known was made up of the folks from the 6994th SS and it's detachments in Southeast Asia, beginning in early 1966 and ending in about mid-1974.
There is a lot of history that was before unavailable that can be found on my site and will be much more available on this site as it grows. More information is being declassified, (finally, but some continue to hold on). Steve, if I can help you in any way, please feel free to ask. I wish you well in your endeavor. And I would like to add here, that we are working on having a REUNION, the first, for everyone, front-end crew, back-end crew, and all maintenance and support personnel that were involved in the "EC-47 Mission" in Southeast Asia, from it's beginning to the end in 1974. We are now working on May 29, 30 and 31, 1999, (5 months from now) in San Antonio. More details on the reunion can be found on my web-site. Would really be great to have a super turn out. J.C.

Nice Job, Steve. I hung around with some of the 203's because, being the cunning linguists they were, they made our "civic action programs" downtown, on P-Road, and at the Miami swimming pool so much more meaningful. In particular, I managed to convince Rich "Spirus T" Renkas that his training was going to waste at the Z1 postition on an EC-47. I freqently flew as the AMS, and f I had to pick a guy for a "real" mission, I guess my vote would go to Ron Shelby, who as I recall had spent some time on R/EC-135s out of Okinawa [6990th ?]. I vaguely remember John Lloyd, or at least the name, and a few others on the list. I also have some slides of a "wedding reception" of sorts that was held for Gary [Kent ? -- last name escapes me] and his bride, held at her parents' place somewhere outside Saigon. Gary was promptly exiled to F.G. Warren AFB base in Wyoming. Anyhow, keep up the good work! PS - I can still count from "mot" to "mui".

As much as I hated being there, I made some great and life-long friends. We were all in the same situation, away from home, always a chance of being shot out of the sky (I don't know of anyone who was fired on). It's a chapter in my life that I won't easily forget.

June '70 to Jan. '72. A quarter for a beer. Air-conditioned barracks. P-road. Poker. Mosquito Man and Harvey Wallbanger. Blast walls that couldn't stay up. Mama-san starching everything. Co Hua. Puppies, puppies everywhere. Lasagna cooked on an open grill. The Aussies and Fosters Lager. You call that a war?
Great site, Steve. I'll try to get my scanner working and send some photos.

Great job, Wyco. Was saddened to hear that snowdrift (Nodorft) had passed away. Still keep in touch
with John "Bravo" Kiss and located John Woolbright via Century Club site. My nickname was "Snuffy"
Smith. Can't wait to see the pics you have gathered. Keep it up. Chao cac anh.
