Comments: I just went "online", although ex-292 brother has been telling me about USAFSS-linked sites for years. I was an airborne 2 and 6 op at the 90th. Then, during the drought on Oki in '71, I volunteered to go to NKP to help set up the new unit there. Was there when SSGT Haas decided to
leave Goodbuddy to see what it was like in the field - he didn't like it!!! Would like to hear from any of the old DLI/Goodfellow/90th crew.In my recent web search, I've only seen three familiar names - two of the addresses are no longer valid. chaof cacs anh. xin vieets.

Comments: Happy Holidays to Everyone. Wyco...I was surprised to see the 08th Patch on the site page. A guy whose name I can't remember designed the Olympic Torch/Comfy Gator patch from a Hallmark Card I received, and I had the patches made at the shop in the Thai Restaurant on base for my crew. I thought I was the only one who still had some.

Hello to all USAFSS types. I'am the third son of David E. Taylor. I currently serve as a Army Engineer Officer (INARNG). I have served in all types of high speed units to include the Army Special Forces...and I owe it ALL to my USAFSS father! Please, I need your help...does any former USAFSS member know my father David E. Taylor from Ohio? He served as a MA+ Linguist, aircrew and ground, etc? His units were 6912th, 6913th, HQ USAFSS, Tuslog Det 94, O/L1 6990th-Korat, 6922nd Det7-Korat, 6908th-NKP and Task Force Alpha-NKP. I can never find his name on any rosters, etc. Please email any information that you might have on him or his SS units. Thank you!

As 306, I spent many a mid-shift in our little cottage next to the flight line at Pleiku in 1966-67 drinking god awful coffee, keeping the crypto gear on line, and of course, listening to and telling lies. I was there the night the armory blew up next door and the SP's were at the door ready to kill us all because they thought it was their duty to keep us from falling into "enemy" hands. I was also there nights when we lost friends and had doubts. I became an engineer and traveled all over the world, but I have never found a group of people with more dedication than my friends in the 6994th. I hope all of you have done well these past years and would like to hear from you.

An updated entry just to stay in touch. Great finding e-mail addresses of Boneman and others. Fortunately I get to see several "oldies" at the FTVA Reunions (Big Ed, Rick Francona, Dave Honerman, etc. - even saw Dan Tuechak (sp?) this past year). Also fortunate to live in the "retirement paradise" of San Antonio and run into old buddies here (Dommie, PF, Phil Beekley, Al Dougherty, etc). Will keep checking back for new contacts (still looking for address of "Duck-Pond-Jumper" Bill Dean. And what ever happened to Gu9s Duncan??? (Remember, the 9 is silent) TTYL

I found this site quite by accident. Happily I saw some familiar names. I do remember spending more time in Casual at Lackland than in actual Basic..about four days more. The butt-numbing ride to a sandstorm in El Paso in Feb '71. Goodbuddy was okay, Ft. Meade during the summer of '72 was a great time for me. I passed thruogh Clark the day after Marcos delcared Martial law in the Phillipines and arrived in NKP the day after the new BX opened. I have lots of pictures of Camp Tarboux and downtown NKP. I could even come up with a few pics of the Dancers too. I have a close-up shot of the clock and six-months apart photos of the customs station by the river showing the 60-70 foot difference in water levels. When I arrived at NKP, Jerry Cook, Ed Verbunker, and I were put up in the hoohces across from the tennis courts, just below the chow hall. I remember the '08th folks were probably the only folks who went to work with field jackets and liners as necessary equipment. How about sitting position, searching with your off hand and keeping your writing hand in the opposite armpit to stay warm enough to copy. Riding bikes along the perimeter road then around the bunker walls to park by our back door at TFA. Did anyone else ever have bad dreams in four-figure? Linebacker II was especially busy (no foolin'!!) I recall going out the back door to see the BUFF on fire as it passed overhead. The sound of the gunships at work over Laos was audible on base. The outdoor theatre screen that would wash out every time a Jolly Green passed by. As primitive as the place was; I had a great time. Okinawa was exile by comparison, the '90th was okay, but the rest of the rock was endurable only by taking up SCUBA diving. When the chance came to go on a 60 day TDY back to NKP, it was YAHOO..me too!!! The best traffic I ever heard was at the end of a "figure" msg..."Attn all stations, tomorrow, two C-130's will land at Bac Mai...DO NOT shoot them down." It was the start of Operation Homcoming. After Okinawa in '74, I wound up at Travis as a Loadmaster on C-5's and then a desk job as a 27170 (an operations & mission planning job). I retired in Oct '91 from Travis. Steve French, (Ong Phap!)I have a good photo of your reaction to the 'wonderful' taste of Very Cold Duck. This is a great site.. I'll be back! (sorry Arnold)

I was a north vietnames transcriber at the 90th and found this sight after Joe Nohejl told me about it. Ifound Joe because I have filed a claim with VA for post traumatic stress disorder and used a search service to find him. I am really interested in finding other members I served with. It took years of therapy and a lot of persuasion by my VA psycholgist to file for a claim. Steve says it really well when he said manyof us never had a chance to grow up because we grew old so young. Presently am fighting with the VAbecause they are not use to dealing with people like us with our clearances. Much of my personnel recordis still classified although the Pentagon Air Force is trying to make some of my records available to the VA.Some of the best evidence I can produce for my claim are statements from other people I worked with and Iam asking for help with this and for those attempting or planning to attempt filing a claim, I'll pass on allthat I have learned about the process over the last two years.

Former VN Lingie Army E-6, then Navy 1635 Retired Intel Officer. How about you lingies giving your VNese classroom names? I don't remember most of the American names of guys in my class at Monterey - 02VN37W0467 (how's that for memory?). My VNese name was TAN, or TAAN, or TA^N. I was in Ba Giap's home room. Phu Bai 8th RRFS, used to process the voice tapes from the 6994th Pleiku EC-47 guys, and always liked when they would give me their box lunches (seldom). I was in charge of the ARVNs DANCER program at Phu Bai.

I wasn't a 203, I was a 30474RY that kept your R390's and GRC-27's operating. Stationed at 6924th in DaNang July-September 67. Officed in Dog Patch, worked in the H-one's and lived in Tent City. Medevac'd out in September, released from Fitzsimmons Generalin February and eventually discharged in 1970. Graduated from Univ Nebraska with BSEE in '75 and worked in the A & E and pipelineindustry ever since. Have any other 6924th or 6948th vets checked in?

Russian language school DLIWC 1970, Goodfellow after that, survival schools (all of them) and then back to Goodfellow for airborne training. Assigned to the 6985th SS, Eilson AFB, AK November 1971 -November 1973. We often flew the South China Sea orbit (a 38 hour mission from Eilson) and were TDY assigned to Kadena. Some of our class was assigned to Kadena. Just looking for some old buddies. Thanks for the site and all the work involved to create and maintain. Anyone stationed at Kadena in 1972-73 remember Bill Bleasdale, Mike Southworth, and other tvorachy?

Hours and hours of boredom, punctuated by seconds of sheer panic, ( A phrase I heard at Goodfellow, proven out). Remembering days on the beach at Cam Rahn in the winterwhen it was nice and warm with a cool bottle of Mateus wine enjoying a day off during the Viet Nam conflict, with those occasional runs over to Khorat to see the sights and take a break, while working with the best guys in the USAF!.
