male wolf. Very patient, loving and wise. Practical. Loves to baby-sit and
teach the children of the holt. Cooperative and helpful, she'll do
almost anything if asked nicely. A traditionalist when it comes to the
Way, tries to have an open mind but doesn't always succeed. Weak wolf
blood (her mother was a pureblood elf), so her sense of smell is not
as sharp as some of the other wolfbloods. Has worked hard all her life to
be able to attain the "Now of wolf-thought" easily. Tends to be "mothering",
but not all coddling, as she is also quick to reprimand anyone who she feels
is out of line- children and adults alike. Likes winter and fall, children
and storytelling. Dislikes unnecessary death, hot summers and trolls.

LIFEMATE: TBD, "widowed" -- he would have been a red-haired, fair-eyed fellow (to explain Whiphook's coloring), with a generous amount of wolfblood (so Eventide gets plenty). He died no earlier than WH 4161 (or else Whiphook couldn't have been conceived). I think he may have died in the swamp from a monster, so it was no later than WH 4500 that he died. (cf. "A Tale Worth Telling?" by Leslie McEuen in Windsea Scroll #2 -- as of WH 4600 there had been no monstrosities encountered for at least 100 years.)
LOVEMATE(S): any willing. Windroot and Jayfeather are casual lovemates of long standing. Charging Thunder is a recent lovemate.

WINTER: Same pants; replace low boots with dark gray boots to just below the knees;
add light-gray, fur-lined tunic to mid-thigh, with bell sleeves to elbow; replace
narrow belt with wide belt. Add light-gray, peaked, fur-lined cap; dark gray gloves
to elbows, with fringe.
COLORS: Fawn/yellow ochre, bone, light gray, dark gray, white, rust-orange. True orange, as an accent only.

A traditionalist when it comes to The Way, she tries to keep an open mind but doesn't always succeed. Does tend to get into ruts if she's not careful. Her challenge in life is to keep herself from stagnation.
Her wolf blood is a little weak (due to her mother being pureblooded) and her sense of smell is not quite as good as that of other Wolfriders. However, her wolf blood blood is very important to her and she has worked throughout her life to understand it and appreciate her four-legged brethren. When she was younger, for example, she had difficulty attaining the "Now of wolf-thought," but turns and turns of practice and study have now made it easy for her to assume at will. She's one of the few people in the Holt who can have a rational discussion with Whiteraven on wolves and the wolf-blooded. This is because Shadelance approaches it from an intellectual as well as an instinctual viewpoint, but also because she can somehow manage to keep Whiteraven calm. (Luckily, Shadelance's patience can be infectious at times.)
If someone else starts flirting, she will readily join in, but she will almost never initiate flirting because she is more likely to start out in "mothering" mode instead. But remember, "mothering" is not all coddling! Although she will indulge and comfort everyone in a motherly way, she is also quick to reprimand anyone who she feels is out of line -- children and adults alike.
HISTORY:
Originally named Shadesong, her name was changed early on (around age 20) when she
showed an affinity for the lance and demonstrated some skill with the weapon.
