About Game Night
In May of 1998 Jesse, Lecia, Susan and Chris started getting together and playing some of our many "board" games on regular basis. Jesse and Lecia have long since moved to Southern California, but Game Night continues! Some of the games we play are simple board games. Some are simple card (non-collectable) games. Some are a little more complex. But they all usually can be picked up and understood in under an half an hour. We mostly play games in groups of 3 to 5 players.
It's fun. It's social. It's become a monthly tradition. We choose six promising games and roll a die to see which one gets played. If things move fast enough, we can play up to three or four different games. If enough people show up, we start two tables. If even more people show up, we set up a third or fourth table.

Since Game Night is a metagame, we have decided upon the following rules:
Everybody Plays:  We try to play games that include all available players.
If there are six people who want to play, we don't want to start a four or five player game.
Depending on when you arrive you may have to wait around for a "large" game to start.
We know how many people are coming to Game Night and we keep this in mind when starting up games.
Game Night has grown to such a size that we really don't have the room for lots of "little" games.
And we just want to make sure everyone gets the most opportunities to play.
Randomness for a Reason:  We like to randomly choose the players for each game.
We like to randomly choose the game we play (out of a stack of six games).
We try and have the group help decide what six games go into the stack.
Why do we do this?
It's fun.
It keeps us from always playing the same games every month.
It keeps people from playing with just people they already know.
We have Game Night so that we can play different games with different people.
And don't forget, Game Night was prominently mentioned and endorsed by Stuart Malkin in his July 3rd, 1999 speech!
Come and join the fun! |
