The view from the lanai faces north and west, providing views of the ocean and coastline.  Kailua town and harbor are about a mile in the distance.  Most of the year the sun sets directly off the lanai, and the lights of downtown Kailua become visible after sunset.  In the morning, the sun rises to the east over Hualalai volcano.  The volcano can't be seen in this photo, but sunrise on the lanai is a fabulous sight as rays of light leap over the summit.
