RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP

Owning a dog is a rewarding experience that brings great joy and happiness to any household. With dog ownership comes long-term emotional and financial commitment and a variety of responsibilities. We encourage potential owners to closely evaluate their lifestyle before deciding to obtain a dog and to give careful consideration to what breed will best suit them. We encourage you to visit the AKC web site, www.akc.org to do some research.

Puppy purchasers are urged to seek reputable, ethical breeders as resources for their dogs. We further encourage owners to provide proper care, training and socialization to ensure that their pets remain happy members of their family, respectable members of the community and well-mannered canine good citizens.

If you're considering getting a dog, ask yourself . . .

How big a dog will this puppy become?

How active a dog will this puppy become?

Should I get a puppy or an adult dog?

Why was this breed of dog developed;
what was it originally bred to do?

Does this breed have special needs,
such as professional grooming?

What temperament and intelligence is typical of this breed?

What genetic and health problems may affect this breed?

How much does it typically cost to buy,
feed and raise a dog of this breed?

Are there important differences
between males and females of this breed?

Have I spent time with puppies, adults, and older dogs of this breed?

Can the breeder provide me with the appropriate paperwork
to register the dog with the American Kennel Club?
