Who Are We?
Sunflower Farms has been growing into a virtual garden within a nursery for nearly 30 years.
The owners acquired
the nursery in 1975 and began to change the existing business from wholesale only to retail as well. It was a slow process
and most weekends in the beginning were spent barbequing chicken wings and hot dogs on a hibachi in the parking lot.
Word
of mouth began to spread about the high quality plants and the friendly dissemination of plant knowledge from the owners and
sales help. The nursery grew over the ensuing years and became a neighborhood establishment for plants, garden supplies and
landscape design and service.
As the retail nursery industry and the California business climate began to change, it was clear
that the nursery needed to change its focus. It was always a dream of the owners to design a nursery that was a series of
gardens where everything was displayed and sold from "landscaped rooms". Hence the birth of Sunflower Farms where
large spreading trees and palms now provide the backdrop for several inspirational gardens including the Main Pathway; the
Sculpture Garden, where hundreds of unique environmental art pieces accent plant and tree arrangements; the Orchard, which
features a grape arbor and a large selection of fruit trees, vegetables and herbs; the Perennial Garden, graced by flowering
Acacias and graceful Weeping Willows, is home to a shaded "Serenity" seating area; the charming Secret Garden, which
is well hidden and meant to be "discovered"; the Bible Garden which features plants from the Bible and the Rose
Garden with over 3000 rose shrubs, climbers and trees.
Classical music soothes both plants and patrons. Monthly garden seminars
and workshops for children and adults are held to help develop educated gardeners and spread the love for gardening and nature.
Attention
to the specific plant and gardening needs of patrons (who soon become friends) is the main focus of the owners who strive
to present a varied selection of unusual plants, perennials, landscape favorites, trees, roses, herbs and vegetables. Hands-on,
visual and informal design consultations are available for those who have"blank slates" to fill or who need a garden
makeover.
Annual events such as the Spring Garden Party, Mothers Day Tea, 4th of July BBQ, Harvest Festival and Holiday Open
House have become neighborhood traditions.
Sunflower Farms is an experience that you'll want to repeat often as the landscape
and gardens continually change to inspire beauty, creativity and serenity.
Remember.......
God is the Gardener
His first
created place...the Garden of Eden
The first job He gave to man...Gardener
Where His Son spent His last hour of freedom...the
Garden of Gethsemane
How does God teach us the lessons of life? Through the Garden...
