Haiku Sun

Issue IX, December 2003

Our Christmas present to you this month is a pared down, no nonsense issue. There are no visuals this month, aside from those presented through the use of our poets' finely crafted words.

The holidays are a time of wonder, dreams and imagination...so grab a cup of tea, throw another log on the fire and enjoy this journey into the mind's eye!

*Technical problems led to a delay in the publication of issue nine. We at Haiku Sun want to apologize for the inconvenience and thank everyone involved in the issue for their patience during this time.

Erin Harte, Editor-Haiku Sun

J D Heskin:

the steps
only my cat can hear:
mouse

toasting
a shadow
toasting
me back

my old dog
on my old foot--
both sleeping

December--
sharing my window
with cold days

many winters--
the steps to my mailbox
further now

December--
reminding me to bring in
more wood

my presence
flushes an old white owl--
what does it mean?

seeing Buddha
with closed eyes--
a haiku

old masters--
setting the haiku mark
high to reach

my village
left long ago is now
another village

one scuffed work boot
drumming the porchboards
