John York & Sumi

A collaboration of music and fabric art with songs written for the art and art created for the songs performed before a live audience. First presented at The Claremont Forum Gallery in 2002 and then at The Cuttress Gallery in 2003, and at The Sozenji Zen Buddhist Temple in 2006, "The Place Where I Am Dreaming" offers a unique view of different cultural and artistic perspectives blending together to create a special concert/art exhibition event. We hope to continue presenting this show all over the world. We have also presented excepts from "The Place Where I Am Dreaming," most recently at the Riverside Art Museum in March, 2007.

This show was featured on JATV's "John York: Music Beyond Borders" Channel 18 in Los Angeles.

"Collaborating Across Art Forms," Shelby Thompson FIBERARTS Nov/Dec 2003.
"Their common interests in the future of our world through building bridges to connect, rather than keeping cultures apart, far outweighed geographical, cultural, and language barriers. They both desired to help open minds to the possibilities that can be found in making friends and sharing lives. The traditional Japanese style reflected in Sumi's wall hangings, hand sewn from old kimonos and other fabrics, coincides with the simplicity of John's music to express this theme."
