Busy
I'm really busy at work right now. I didn't expect it in the summer, but with all the circumstances and such, that's just the way it is. But, I have a few vacations coming up. One two week stretch at the end of next month and a couple of days off in the middle of July to go do the 10k run! I'm really looking forward to that. Running through vineyards and then the celebration wine tasting at the end! My oldest daughter and husband are getting ready to run it as well. And actually, their training is going better this week. They are both up to 5 miles and plan to do 5.5 next week. They also are getting ready hydration wise (my husband just got a fuel belt to wear - a little nicer than mine!!) and they both got some gels to eat mid-race if they need the energy. Okay, not true gels, but these look like some kind of jello squares that are great for bursts of energy. The package has two servings in each, so they are going to try them on their run next week to see how they work. Never try something new at a race! That said, I had to get some new running shoes myself for the race and I needed to get them this weekend to break them in during my small runs next week. My husband told me to get two since they were cheap (we went to the New Balance Outlet), but instead I bought the shoes and a new running shirt! Okay, it's as small as a big running bra, but it's really cute with neat details. I'm not sure I have the guts to wear just that, but if it gets hot enough I don't think that will be an issue! But the shoes were only $30 and the shirt $17! I'm just going to have to be careful and not use my old shoes too much, and then go back there when I get paid next month and get my second pair of running shoes. That will work well anyhow because my husband wants to go back there in a month to get some more for him since they have a great selection and a lot of wider shoes (which he likes) as well. Plus, some great clothes for running!

Oh, not much in the way of knitting/crocheting (okay, nothing at all). And after a weekend of reading last weekend, I didn't do much of that either this week. But I have been working on puzzles with my girls at night. That's relaxing and fun! :-)

Tough 10k
I just finished a 10k with a friend of mine up in Idyllwild. While the weekend was fun overall, that 10k was REALLY hard! I started off strong and good (about 2 miles downhill), then did okay starting the 1st hill, then couldn't catch my breath. So, I haven't needed to walk for a while, but figuring it was going to be almost 3 miles uphill, I gave myself permission to walk. Usually I can catch my breath in 30-60 seconds, but after a minute I still couldn't catch my breath. Then I was upset, wanted to turn back, mad, and finally gave up and gave myself permission to walk and finish at a really slow time (I was hoping to run it in less than 1 hour since I do that distance at home at that rate). Well, taking into account the altitute and my attitude, I drank some Propel, ate a little protein bar, and right at the end of the big hill I got my second wind and did okay for the finish. And, while I didn't beat my hour time, I did come in at 1:00:29 which is 3 minutes less than the last 10k I did! So, not too bad. And, my friend (hi Bev!) continued to run (yes, she did slow down, but she didn't stop!) and came in first in her age group!! Here's a picture of us there.
