The Best Laid Plans. . .
Well, being gone for the weekend I figured I would have time to read, knit and all of that good stuff. I guess I didn't count on it being gone to Las Vegas! While I was able to finish a book (I only had 15 pages left), I didn't really get anything else done! But, here is a great picture of my daughter with her Great Grandma who came to watch one of her games!
Dee and Great Grandma
But, I am so close to finishing that sweater and I just never seem to have time, so I've decided to make that my carry along project and work on it here and there. Which is good, because I sat for an hour in the doctor's office with my youngest yesterday. . . she was kicked in the knee during a game. . .she still scored. . .but had to be carried off the field. Anyhow, she has a type 1 sprain of the knee and is supposed to start physical therapy tomorrow. Since we take turns in driving her there, I'll be bringing that sweater and maybe it will get done this week. :-/  The funky face is because as much as I want extra time to knit and read, I don't like my kids hurt!

Just a quick note. . .
Not too much is happening for me. A lot is happening for my kids though so I'm off and around with them. One daughter's 16th birthday, another one in an out of town tournament, and then the one playing soccer with a college team today (who is REALLY nervous). So, not much to report. But since I am going out of town with one daughter, I plan on bringing a couple of books (never sure which one I'll want to read), and a couple of knitting projects for that same reason. I'll probably bring the shawl I'm working on, but I don't think I want to bring the sweater since I'm just finishing up sleeves. So, I may start a new sock tonight and then bring that as well!! It's been a while since I've done a pair of socks any how. . . I wonder who I'll give these to. . .!

I almost forgot the Friday Five!
So, here it is - a bit late - the Friday Five:

If you...

1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

Italian food

2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
Books & hand knit items

3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
Chick Lit!

4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?
Thinking traditional I first thought that a school schould teach the regular subjects like math, writing, etc. . .
But then I realized I could have any kind of school, so I would have to say either knitting or wine making!

5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
Guitar and/or piano

A New Picture!
Most of my weekend was spent watching my youngest daughter's tournament. They didn't win, but for the most part the team played well and dispite being sick my daughter played really well :-) Anyhow, I was able to read a bit between games when I was by myself, and I was able to work a bit on my sweater  and shawl in the evenings. I am almost done with my first sleeve of my sweater, and I plan on finishing that sleeve tonight and casting on the second one. My shawl is going a bit slower, but that's okay because I'm having fun doing this without a set pattern. So, my picture today is of my shawl (and that's my oldest daughter's hand holding it out for me!):

I finished some!!
First, I finished my speech last night! Yeah! There were only five us out (out of 11 that were supposed to give a speech), so we got out early. I rushed right home, put on my pjs, read a little bit to relax, and then brought out my knitting! I'm happy to say that I finished the front of my new sweater and even cast-on the first sleeve!! I'm so happy that I just thought I'd share.

Monday, Monday
I know, not a very creative title! Oh well. What a weekend though. Between celebrating my birthday, finishing up the soccer banquet (yeah it's done and I never have to do it again!!) and getting my speech ready for tomorrow night, I didn't have time for much else! I did finish a book, "Babyville," but I was almost finished with it anyhow.

The highlights of my weekend was the wine tasting and dinner with my good friend Bev (hi Bev!); brunch with my family at a really good Cuban restaurant that overlooks the valley; and buying some new shoes! Not just one pair of shoes, but two pairs. I made a little bit of extra money, so I was going to treat myself for a pair of shoes I really wanted, but when I was trying on the shoes, the sales person brought me the wrong style by mistake. Well, that style was so cute and comfortable that I had to buy them as well!

So, now tonight I have to practice, practice, practice my speech. But considering that it's a 7 minute speech, even if I practice it over 10 times that's just over one hour, so I'll have time to get back to my knitting. I've been trying to finish up the front of this sweater forever (well, it feels like forever!). But, if I don't get to it tonight, I have my speech tomorrow, and then no homework for one week. So, if I can finish the front and at least one arm I'll be doing really good. I can't wait to post a picture the finished product!

My Birthday!!
Yeah, it's my birthday! But I won't say how old I am. Suffice it to say I have a daughter that's 18!

Well, I finished my speech (that is supposed to be 6-7 minutes long) and did a practice run and it was 9 minutes long! Oh no!! At least it's done though and I can start editing it down to the proper length tomorrow. Today is the day for relaxing and having fun - except that I have to be at work first! Oh well. I haven't figured out which book I plan on reading tonight, but I do know that I want to finish knitting the front of my sweater and cast on my first sleeve! Since this is a short sleeve sweater, it shouldn't take too much longer! I know, with my luck I'll finish the sweater in time for the next rain storm! But, things are looking good. I have a pattern and bag of yarn for my next sweater and of course I am anxious to get that started.

Not Too Much New
Well, between helping my husband with his work, doing laundry, and trying to get my speech written (which, it still is not), I haven't done much of anything else in these last couple of days. I've wanted to work on the front of my sweater that is almost done, but I can't. I want to read some more of "One Hundred Years of Solitude," but I can't. It's just such a big bummer :-( Add to that my birthday coming in two days, and no one has made any plans - and my back-up plan, going out with my good friend that night - is gone as well because she has to go work down in San Diego. She offered for me to take off and come down there with her, and I wish I could. But to top off everything else I'm on stand-by for jury duty this week!! So, pardon me while I have my little pity party right now and get it out of my system. . . .

There. Done.

Now, to make things better for myself this is what I plan on doing:
Tonight, organize my note cards for my speech and have a simple rough outline done. (finish the last load of laundry).
Tomorrow, write out and type up my speech. Proof it at least once.
Thursday, celebrate - knit - read - whatever I want to do (yes, this day is one of my few days to be selfish - along with Mother's Day!)
Friday, start practicing my speech until the basic kinks are worked out.
Weekend, celebrate my birthday with my family, practice speech a lot until it's comfortable. At this point I should be caught up with everything and back to my regular schedule of homework/reading/knitting!

Almost a Friday. . .
We're almost to the end of this week. I think that's a good thing. Although, my birthday is next week. I like celebrating, I just don't like thinking about my age!! :-p Oh well, I guess it's better than the alternative!

I've been continuing to read the lighter books right now. I just don't seem to have the energy to get into something that requires too much thinking, but I think that will be over in the next week or so when I've finished putting on the soccer banquet and my second speech will be done. At least I'm doing my speech on something I'm interested in - wine! But, it's still work, and it's still something I want to do well. As for the banquet, I just want it to go really well for my girls, so I'm trying my best. I've also continued to work on my knitting projects a bit here and there. The shawl is starting to go a bit slower because I've caught myself making mistakes as I talk and knit the pattern. So, I may make that one my night time project and take my sweater (that has a pattern as well, but just one small one down the middle) and put that in my bag to work on at coffee. Or, pick up the scarf I started and put that in my bag. Or even better yet, start something completely new!! No, I probably won't do that for a couple of weeks. Nothing like adding to my already growing list of things to do. Some times it's really fun to start a new project, but then some times it just adds the stress of knowing others are not finished and then I'm taking away my fun. So, I'll switch the shawl and the scarf, continue enjoying working on both, and in a couple of weeks (which I'm sure I'll at least have the scarf done) I'll pick a new fun project to do!

Yet Another Tuesday. . .
It's almost mid-week and there really isn't much to tell. I've been working on my speech (about white wine - a good subject!), and I've been working on a banquet for my daughter's high school soccer team (which, since the deadline for RSVP was yesterday - it was nuts with calls and last minute visits), so I haven't done too much of anything else. With the stress of that, and my oldest daughter being gone to visit a college over the weekend, I was a bit stressed - so I decided to re-read a couple of old books that I had read before. Kind of like visiting old friends. You don't have to be too concerned about the story and you can laugh over some of the situations just as much as the first time! I'll start back on some new books again tomorrow. Today is school and my graduation check appointment (yeah!).

Oh yeah, I also did some knitting! I'm working on a new shawl without a pattern. But, so far it's going well and I'm up to 5 pattern repeats! I'm pretty sure I'll be up to a whole lot more than that before I'm done, but I'm pleased so far! I also worked a bit on my sweater last night since there were too many interruptions to do homework or read. But, I'm almost to the armhole decreases on the front side!! I'm so excited. I've already finished the back, and if I finish the front this weekend that will just leave two short sleeves. I'll probably have this sweater done before it's even warm enough to wear it outside!! That's okay, I have one more sweater pattern (and a bag of yarn) waiting to start for a long sleeve sweater. Plus, I want to start on a vest for my Dad, and I need to get yarn for that.
