Tired!
No knitting, no tv, not much of anything except test taking and reading! I started Jennifer Crusie's new book "Bet Me"
during lunch at work yesterday and I got hooked into it! But, I had a test last night as well. So, being the good student
that I try to be, I put the book aside, studied for my test when I got home for work, got to school early, and took my test.
Since it was a test night, we were let off early. I went home to celebrate it being over by getting back into that book -
and I just couldn't put it down. 3am this morning I finished :-/ What can I say. . . it was a good read! I'm sure I'll be
tired tonight, so I'll watch tv and knit on some easy project like my scarf. There will be no sweater work or shawl work that
requires extra thinking!!

Tuesday Test
I have my first test in speech tonight. I've studied every night for the past week, and still I'm a little nervous about
it. Oh well, I will try my best and the way I figure it, either way I'll pass this class and get my degree! Of course, I want
that last A, but I'll be okay with a B. . . .but I really want that A!
Besides studying, I have knitted and read. Amazing how much more time I have this semester taking only one class on campus
instead of one on campus and one on-line. Those on-line classes are great for scheduling, but a lot of homework!! Anyhow,
I worked a little bit on my sweater, but since I finished two projects over the weekend, I just had to start two more!! So,
I cast on for a fancy brown scarf (like my blue one I finished a couple of weeks ago), and I started a new shawl. I'm trying
something new, not really following a pattern. I am increasing with a yo on every knit row, and then I found a book of lace
patterns and I'm putting a leaf pattern in the middle of it. I've just started, but I'm anxious to see how it goes increasing
the pattern. I should be able to work on it a lot tomorrow night (after my computer consulting. . . )
Also, I finished a book last night. Instead of turning on the tv late last night, I sat down and finished "The Vampire
Lestat" by Anne Rice. I will say, a very different book, but I really enjoyed it. Rice brings you into her world so well that
it's just a really enjoyable read!

Feeling Better
Well, I posted my Friday Five, but I also wanted to post a little about my week. Part of it was spent sick in bed. Such a
bummer. I was even too tired to read or knit much. But, I'm feeling better now and I was able to both read and knit yesterday
during lunch and after dinner! I've almost finished my multicolored socks (yeah!!), and I did finish my bell lace socks!!!
I took a picture last night, but by that time I was too tired to get up, turn on the computer and load up the pictures. So,
I figure I'll finish the other socks this weekend and have a couple of new pictures to put up next time I log on!
TGIF!!

Friday Five
When was the last time you...
1. ...went to the doctor?
August of 2003 when I hurt my ankle.
2. ...went to the dentist?
Just over a year. . . I know. . . I'm going to make an appointment soon!
3. ...filled your gas tank?
Two days ago. I need to fill it again since my husband had the car for two days!
4. ...got enough sleep?
Two days ago. I stayed home sick and slept all day.
5. ...backed up your computer?
At work, a couple of months ago! I guess I need to do that today!

Sicky
For most of the weekend I was really not feeling too well. Actually, I'm still not feeling too well, but decided I should
go into work and try to last out the day. I'll see how I do. . .
Over the weekend I spent a lot of time sleeping, resting, reading and knitting! I spent the day out of the office with my
husband on Sunday. I threw a pillow on the floor, brough my food, kleenex, books and knitting and just relaxed while being
with him so he could get some work done. He got a lot of work done. As for me, I finished one book, turned the heel on one
pair of socks, and read the Sunday paper. Not too bad for feeling sick! If I can stay up tonight, I should finish that pair
of socks and then be able to post a picture!!

The Friday Five!
1. Are you superstitious?
More than I'd like to be!
2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition?
Nothing too extreme. Maybe just not walking under a ladder.
3. Believer or not, what's your favorite superstition?
Knocking on wood so you don't have bad luck.
4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article
of clothing/ritual?
Yes I do believe in luck, but no, I don't have any rituals etc.
5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?
Nope. Too hard to believe that because you are born within a certain set of days your personality will be set.

A little of this. . . a little of that. . .
I gave my first speech in class last night! It was just an introductory speech that earned points just for giving it
- but it's one of three that I have to give to pass the class and it's done and over! I'll get to read her comments on it
next week though. . .
So, preparing for the speech I didn't do too much reading, but I did a little bit of knitting. Here is a picture of the
front of my new sweater I've been working on.
It's kind of hard to see the details, but I think you get the picture somewhat. It's fun to work on because of the pattern
though - but that also means I don't work on it while watching tv or playing family games because I don't want to mess up
the pattern. So, for that I'm working on a couple different pairs of socks. Now here's the sad part - I put one pair down
by the side of my bed after working on it at night, and the next morning I stepped on it and broke one of my wood needles
:-( I'm going to try and get to the yarn store tomorrow during lunch to replace it, but I'm not sure I'll be able to
get there. What a bummer!

I finished a scarf!
Last night I finsihed the blue fancy scarf I put up the picture of! Yeah! But that's all I did last night. Okay, not
all I did - I did laundry, cooked dinner, practiced my speech - but that's all of the knitting I was able to do. Still, I'm
happy that I finished one! Now to e-mail Sandy at Snadysknitting for the scarf-along and let her know!

New Pictures!
I finally took some pictures this weekend! First, here is the fancy blue scarf I'm working on:
It has a lot more purple than I thought when I bought the yarns, but oh well! I'm about half way done on it right now.
I plan to have it finished by the end of the week and then work on a brown fancy scarf!

An unplanned shopping day!
My husband always tells me I'm an impulse buyer, and I guess it's true. The good thing about it though, I wait until I've
saved money to spend it. The bad thing, I rarely buy what I've been saving for because something else seems to catch my eye!
As it did yesterday. . . My husband wanted to window shop for laser printers for his office. I thought that would be great
because I've been saving for a new PDA and I wanted to check some out. I was pretty proud of myself that after we looked carefully
at the new PDAs, I was going to go home and think about which one I wanted, and if I still needed to save some more money.
Well, on the way out I saw an internet router for $50. $50 is so cheap so I picked one up, and one cable to connect one of
my kids computers. The cable ended up being $25 on sale for only 25 feet, but I thought it would work. Out in the car, my
husband asked me what I bought - so I told him. He had some good questions for me though. Like, "which kid are you going to
network first," and "where are you going to run the wires?" I had not really thought about that, as a matter of fact, I hadn't
thought about much except that it seemed cheap! So, we go into the next store so he can do some more price shoping, and he
sees a wireless router for $10 more than what I spent. Then he points out that the wireless adapters for each computer are
only slightly more than a short cable, and it would network so much nicer. Yup, he was right. I should have researched it
all first. Then again, if I had, I probably wouldn't have bought it all! So, back to the original store where my husband returned
the original items, and I bought the slight more expensive, but better suited stuff. Add to that one extra one for the other
kid (can't do one and not the other), and we came home with enough stuff to network our house. At the register they asked
us if we wanted someone to come in for free (we had bought enough $$ to qualify) and set it up for us. No way we BOTH said
- how hard could it be!! Well, 6 hours later with the help of my husband and my dad, the system was set up!! As payment from
the girls, they had to clean their rooms completely (okay, they are still working on that one, but considering they got home
from work at 6pm and then left again this morning at 8am, I can't complain because they were doing it), and buy a Carl's Jr.
low carb burger for myself and my husband for dinner. But, it's up and running fairly smoothly now. And already my husband
wanted the internet while I'm working on it - so now he's logged on to another computer!! Yeah!! But I won't be buying my
PDA any time soon now. :-/
Besides all of the shopping, my husband also fixed my dryer (yeah!!), so I did laundry, cleaning and a little bit of reading
and knitting. Not enough to make any comments on though! So today, it's a day of rest, the pro bowl, and knitting!! I hope
to make some good progress on both scarfs I'm working on!

Second post of the day!
I know, two posts in one day - pretty good! I had already posted my Friday Five, when I realized I forgot to post about
my knitting. So, I had to do a second post.
In the last few days I've been pretty productive with my knitting, even if I haven't finished anything! I worked on my
multicolored socks last night and I'm done to shaping the toe on my first sock. That should be finished tonight and the second
one cast on and at least a few rows of ribbing done. I'm really picky about that. If I don't cast on my second sock right
away, I know I'll have trouble coming back to it! Then, I worked on the front of my sweater a little bit. Now it's fun because
there is a pattern running up the middle. As a matter of fact, I'll try to take a picture this weekend to post because the
pattern is really pretty. It's also why I had to put it down - I had a glass of wine finally last night (I say finally because
I haven't been feeling well so I haven't had any for almost 2 weeks), and I don't want to make a mistake while relaxing with
wine - so I switched over to that sock! Also, a couple of nights ago I casted on Dee's scarf (my second one for the scarfalong),
and did some on that before putting it down! So, I've made some good progress this week, even if I haven't finished anything!
I doubt I'll finish anything this weekend either. . . but I'm pretty sure I'll be casting on a sock to work on with my on-line
sock group. . . I'll just add another bar to my blog here when I do!

The First Friday Five of February!
1 . What's the most daring thing you've ever done?
I went kayaking through some wonderful caves.
2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
It used to be parachuting, but I don't want to do that anymore! In the present, I could think of a few things. . . mostly
things like kayaking and skiing!
3. On a scale of 1-10, what's your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it's a
lifestyle)
Right now it's a 3. When the kids leave it will be closer to a 6! Oh boy, I'm the wild one :-/
4. What's the
best thing that's ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
I met my husband.
5. ... and what's the worst?
I could say something funny. . .but I won't! The worse is that I sprained my ankle.

I finally took one of those tests. . .

You are a
PHOENIX in your soul and your
wings make a statement. Huge and born of flame,
they burn with light and power
and rebirth.
Ashes fall from your wingtips. You are an
amazingly strong person. You survive, even
flourish in adversity
and hardship. A firm
believer in the phrase, 'Whatever doesn't kill
you only makes you stronger,' you rarely fear
failure.
You know that any mistake you make
will teach you more about yourself and allow
you to 'rise from the ashes' as a still
greater
being. Because of this, you rarely make the
same mistake twice, and are not among the most
forgiving people.
You're extremely powerful and
wise, and are capable of fierce pride, passion,
and anger. Perhaps you're this way because
you
were forced to survive a rough childhood. Or
maybe you just have a strong grasp on reality
and know that life
is tough and the world is
cruel, and it takes strength and independence
to survive it. And independence is your
strongest
point - you may care for others, and
even depend on them...but when it comes right
down to it, the only one you need
is yourself.
Thus you trust your own intuition, and rely on
a mind almost as brilliant as the fire of your
wings
to guide you.You are eternal and because
you have a strong sense of who and what you
are, no one can control your heart
or mind, or
even really influence your thinking. A symbol
of rebirth and renewal, you tend to be a very
spiritual
person with a serious mind - never
acting immature and harboring a superior
disgust of those who do. Likewise, humanity's
stupidity
and tendency to want others to solve
their problems for them frustrates you
endlessly. Though you can be stubborn,
outspoken,
and haughty, I admire you greatly.

Superbowl & Knitting
The first half of the Superbowl was just okay. But the second half was fun to watch! Which means, I did a lot of knitting
in the first half, and not a whole lot in the second! I finished the back to my sweater and cast on the front. Now I get to
work on a pattern, which is a lot more enjoyable! I also finished the shape-it scarf. My friend was right though, I didn't
use a good yarn for it. So, I'm happy that it's done, but I'm not really caring for the final project. Maybe I'll take a picture
and put it up this week and see, then again. . .
Back to knitting. I also cast on the edge of my fancy scarf for the scarfalong and worked a few different yarns all with some
kind of blue!! I'm about 1/3 through with it, but I really want a new yarn to go in the middle. This is one project I will
try to get some pictures of this week and put up. It's just so much fun to pick up yarns as you go and make the scarf! I made
one over the holidays and I've worn it a few times. I also have the yarn for a second one with browns as the background color
and I can't wait to start that one. That just leaves the scarf for my daughter that I keep wanting to start, but haven't bought
the yarn for yet. I really do plan to go out at lunch today. . . I hope!
