Greenwood is one of 5 communities in Greenwood County; Greenwood, Hodges, Ninety Six, Troy and Ware Shoals.  Greenwood's location is in the Lower Piedmont region of Upstate South Carolina and has many assets to offer in many venues; industry, recreation, history, excellent schools, and health care.  The allure of natural beauty, a picturesque lake, lush rolling hills and mild climate are all what brings people here whether just visiting or to make a permanent home.

The Census Bureau reported in 2004 that the population of Greenwood County was 67,519.  The biggest employer is Self Regional Hospital.
