Photos of Auyuittuq National Park
Baffin Island, Canada
| This photo series was taken during an 8 day
backpacking trip to Auyuittuq National park on Baffin Island in the
Canadian Arctic.
Located astride the Arctic Circle on the Cumberland Peninsula, Auyuittuq (meaning "land that does not melt" in Inuit) was created in 1972. Dominated by the massive Penny Ice Cap, most of the park is accessible to only the most experienced mountaineers. However the southern part of the park is bisected by South Pangnirtun Pass along the Weasel River to Summit Lake, where it continues past Glacier Lake to North Pangnirtung Pass and along the Owl River. It is the south section to Summit lake and return that is documented here. |
