PORTFOLIO These are the photographs that I feel come closest to achieving my goal

Photography is both an art and a craft. The craft part is a simple matter of learning technique and then honing this skill with compulsive dedication. Or, perhaps, not a simple matter at all. But beyond craft there is art. Art is ill-defined as something that is created. No one can explain how or even know if one can repeated. But the wonder is that art is created constantly regardless of whether or not it can be defined or even recognized. My desire is to make photographs that may be art. I may have succeeded occasionally and I continue to try.

My photography bio appears on the next page.

HELEN MANZER, my photography teacher --a formidable educator who taught me to make photographs; not take them.

WINTER Once you conquered the cold, you learned to appreciate the solitude of
working early in the morning before the sun rises too high.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY The focus is on everyday life. The serendipity that came into play never ceased to amaze me.

BLACK & WHITE When color trivializes a subject., lack of color conveys the message.

NATURE My eyes were opened by a woman in her eighties. Her picture appears at the lower left of this page.

INFRARED A unique technique that captures specific wavelengths of light to create images of mystical quality.
