Standing at Stud

J. Toby's Shadow - Now a 10 year old; 15+ hh clear-eyed black; RMHA and KMSHA registered and certified to breed; tested negative for the red gene by the University of Kentucky.  Toby was sired by Magnum, who goes back to Dock, and he is out of a Johnson's Toby mare. Johnson's Toby horses are well-known to display that old time square and fast gait. Toby's first crops of babies, now ages 6 and 5, are under saddle and they show that they have inherited his fine gait, as well as, his great head. And Toby has produced almost 90% chocolate out of mares with flax manes & tails (regardless of their body colors).

In 2001, Toby's first showing season, he won many conformation and under saddle championships including the Classic Pleasure Grand Championship at the North American (FOSH/UMH) held in Denver.  Included in that field were horses from as far away as Kentucky and Washington.  In 2002, Toby added Grand Championships in Topeka, KS and in Grand Junction, CO (UMH) to his resume.  Since '02, his show schedule has been limited as there are just not very many shows for us in the Colorado area. But in '03, '04 and '06, Toby won the under saddle championships at the FOSH/UMH sanctioned Colorado State Fair. In '05, Toby was the under saddle Grand Champion of the FOSH sanctioned Tennessee Walker Colorado Celebration. And in 2007, J. Toby's Shadow qualified for both the AOT Show Pleasure and AOT Trail Pleasure Grand Championships at the RMHA International held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

In addition to this show record, J. Toby's Shadow is a "real horse," being trail ridden extensively (he is Carolyn's personal trail horse). We even use Toby to "school" our young horses when they go under saddle. In short, Toby has turned out to be better than we could ever have hoped when we found him as a very green broke 2 yo at the '00 RMHA International in Lexington, KY.

Breeding Contracts are by Private Treaty. AI (shipped cooled semen) services are provided by Premier Breeding Services, LLC. Due to the uncertainty of Colorado spring weather, we are hesitant to commit deliveries of semen until after April 15.

Our Mares

Clemon's AnnaSOLD. A '95 model 15.1hh clear eyed sorrel/flax mare.  Annie was purchased by Kristine Woods of Michigan. She has a flowing ground covering and tireless gait.  Annie is a Clemon's Tim grand-daughter.  She had 2 beautiful red chocolate/flax babies sired by outside stallions. Then, in '03, Annie delivered a chocolate colt (Scooter, now age 4) sired by J. Toby's Shadow. Scooter's picture can be seen on our Horses for Sale list. Annie's last baby for us was a beautiful chocolate filly (Sugar) that now lives with Christie Silber in the mountains of southern Colorado.

Colorado Storm Cloud - SOLD. Kevin Knuth, now of Boise, ID acquired Stormy in the fall of '04 prior to a move from Colorado to Idaho. Due to the pressures of his work and a love for boating and fishing, Kevin sold Stormy to a farm in Cave Junction, OR in June of '07. Stormy is a 14.3hh clear eyed black, born in '96, who was Storm Ranch raised and trained.  She is RMHA and KMSHA registered and certified. She has a fabulous disposition and incredible presence and self-confidence which made her a champion in the showring and a go anywhere trail horse. Her sire is the well known Reb's Big Shot. She had two babies by J. Toby's Shadow. Her son, Gunner, now a 5 yo gelding, is staying with us. We will forever fondly remember the great times Stormy gave us.

Reb's Colorado Sunshine - 15.1+hh clear eyed and a deep chocolate with flax mane and tail. Sunny was foaled in '97 and is a half sister to Colorado Storm Cloud (the same sire). We picked her out of a New Mexico herd at 3 days old. When Sunny turned 2 yrs old Carolyn climbed aboard. 2 years later, with 30+ blues and 4 Grand Championships, having been invited to perform with the national Rocky Mountain Horse Drill Team, after many breed demonstrations, plus too many trail rides to count, Sunny was "retired" to have babies.

She delivered her first foal, a black filly, the end of May '03. Ebony may be the most naturally gaited horse ever raised at Storm Ranch. She is for sale and can be seen in Horses for Sale. The following year Sunny presented us with a gorgeous chocolate filly who is now owned by Lisa Doerr of Wisconsin.

We left Sunny open for '05.  She was trail ridden, did breed demos, and we even took her to a show Memorial Day. She still has it - won the under saddle GC. And in May, '06, Sunny foaled a fabulous chocolate filly (Ellie) who was quickly snapped up by Lisa Doerr giving her two J. Toby's Shadow and Reb's Colorado Sunshine fillies (note: Lisa has since sold Ellie)

In '07, Sunny was again open and she was extensively used for trail riding and to help with the development of last year's 4 YOs. And we even took her to a show where she gave Lock a couple of fabulous rides and was reserve trail pleasure champion (not bad for no shoes, no foot, no work, and pregnant).

On May 3, 2008 Sunny delivered the absolute best yet, a chocolate colt. Pictures and details can be seen in the Horses for Sale section of this website.

Anna's Lonesome Dove - Lonesome is owned by John Simcox of Fraser, CO. John and Charlene were out of the state for a couple of years on a church mission, so we had the mare "on loan" for about 15 months. Lonesome is the daughter of the legendary Cricket's Little Buddy, who sired a limited number of babies (he is now gelded). She is a tall chocolate mare who has thrown a number of fine foals.

On May 4, '06, Lonesome had a long-legged chocolate colt sired by our J. Toby's Shadow that we named Mighty Mike. Mikey was purchased by Lisa Doerr and he is now in Wisconsin with two half-sisters.

Lonesome Dove was bred back to Toby for an '07 foal and returned to her home in the mountains. She foaled a black colt this last summer out in the mountain meadow. John Simcox named the colt Dusty Diamond's Lonesome Warrior and is seriously considering keeping him a stallion. See picture of Lonesome and "Blackie" below.
