St. John's Parish
The
Parish of St. John's consists of nearly 150 families and over 225 members. Our youth comprise nearly 1/4 of our Parish,
and it is exciting to watch them learn and grow in the Anglican tradition.
We are
growing at a steady rate each year, and our pews are often filled with newcomers
and students from Utah
State University. During the summer
we also welcome our "Summer Citizens" who worship with us during
their stay visiting from Sun
City.
Rector
Our Rector, The Reverend Ruth Eller, joined St. John's in February of 1999. Ruth
came to us by way of San Francisco, where she was Missioner in the Diocese of California.
Ruth earned her B.A. (1965) at Vassar College in Drama and English and has a Ph.D. (1980) from Berkeley in English. She
received her M.Div. (1989) from the Church
Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley. Her work outside
the church has been as a teacher or lecturer at various colleges and universities.
Her work within the church has included being a Pastoral Associate for three
years and an Interim Pastor at four different churches from 1992 until 1996.
During this time she worked on adult education, youth program development,
and diversifying liturgy. She also
led parish retreats, adapted and directed medieval dramas for performance,
and set up a regular monthly Taizé service. An excerpt from her personal ministry
statement reads, "[I am] experienced in parish and diocesan ministry,
teaching, and the arts. I am eager
to share the gospel through a dynamic community of faith."
Staff
The
Administrative Assistant to the Rector is Shannon Ashment. She has been with
St. John's since 1998.
Harrpy
Heap, Mary Lou Kallinger, and Reed Stock have been the organists at St. John's for many years. Their
skill and dedication to our parish truly makes each service beautiful and
worshipful. Harry Heap is also our
Choir Director.
