Research Interests

 

Microwave electrodynamics of superconductors, Applied superconductivity; Microwave response of dielectrics, for example the medical exploitation of dispersion in biological tissue.

                        President and Founder

Founded a company to develop microwave metrology of dielectric materials such as aerosols and biological tissues to the point of commercialization.  Organized the corporation, provided seed capital, acquired capital equipment, established the facility, set-up the accounting system, developed a research program; coordinate collaborators, write proposals to government agencies, and oversee the R&D program.

 

            ISCO International, Mount Prospect, IL  (1994-2003)

                        Director of Engineering  (1998-2003)

                        Senior Engineer (1994-2003)

                  §        Built a multi-disciplinary team of about 20 scientists,

                      engineers,and technicians responsible for

                      developing superconductive wireless front-end

                      products. 

§        Provided project and technical leadership to EE, mechanical, RF and materials experts.

§        Innovated much of the company’s technology in the past several years, including temperature compensated cryogenic devices, device and system size reduction, and high RF power handling. 

§        Managed the company’s large intellectual property portfolio. 

§        Coordinated development efforts with team members located in different countries.

§        Involved in new business development in Asia and Latin America.

§        Contributed to the technical due diligence of two business acquisitions.

§        Technical task leader on a NIST funded Advanced Technology Program grant.

ˇ        Served my faculty advisor by supervising undergraduate students engaged in senior research and REU projects.  Developed the research plans with these students, collaborated with them, and supported them all the way through their thesis defense.  Several of these students finished with high honors.

ˇ        Instructor for: Modern Physics Lab (2nd and 3rd year physics majors), general physics lab, analog electronics, digital electronics, physics for non-science majors.

                nFamiliar with the principles of vacuum and cryogenics.            

                nStatistical methods of reliability engineering.

                nDesigned commercial microwave filters, such as bandpasses,

                   notches and multiplexers.

                nMastery of RF and microwave test procedures.

                nElectromagnetic modeling using HFSS and IE3D.   

                nCertain microelectronic device fabrication methods, such as wire bonding.

                nCircuit design using EagleWare Genesys.

             nTen years of experience with project management.
