


Steve D. Matchett (b. 1957) earned his bachelor's degree in music from the University of Houston in tuba performance. He went on to earn his master's degree in music composition from Sam Houston State University where he studied with composer Fisher Tull. His original compositions include solo and chamber works for brass, winds and strings,as well as orchestral works. His music has been performed in Europe and Japan, as well as in the United States. He has been active in Houston, Texas as a freelance musician for many years and has performed with all of that city's professional orchestras and many leading brass ensembles. His present performing positions include principal tuba with the Lake Charles Symphony in Louisiana, and tubist with the Houston Lyric Brass. He is the owner of Gulf Wind Music Press, and takes interests in musiclogy and in web site design. He also maintains an active private teaching studio for low brass in north Houston where he lives with his wife Teresa who is a cellist and is very involved in the Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association (HASSA).
