M101
M101 is a very wide and fairly bright spiral galaxy found also towards the end of the Big Dipper handle. Its spiral arms are quite extensive and faint however and difficult to capture well on film. It is about 27 million light years away and extends approximately 200,000 light years across being somewhat larger than our own Milky Way. A wider view can be seen here or by clicking on the image. |

Comments: Average to poor seeing. Tough night with lots of wind. Surprised to have guided as well as I did. |
