On Saturday, May 22, 2004 (raindate: Sunday, May 23), The 14th annual,
Earth Celebrations Rites of Spring: Procession to Save Our Gardens, directed by Felicia Young, enacts a day-long parade and mythic pageant to celebrate and preserve the community gardens of New York City. The 8-hour pageant, begins at Forsyth Street (between Broome & Delancey), at 10am and weaves throughout the day until 6pm, visiting over 35 magnificent gardens on the Lower East Side. The parade features: giant puppets, musical bands, spectacular costume garden characters. Performances of dance, music, and poetry performed at gardens along the route. Earth Celebrations offers Puppet & Costume Workshops for adults and children to create the spectacular costumes, masks, and giant puppets for the pageant, inspired by the gardens and nature in the city.
