Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968, having recorded with them on just two albums - The Piper At the Gates Of Dawn and Saucerful Of Secrets - well before the band's real taste of fame and fortune in the 1970s. Yet when the band released their greatest hits album, Echoes, in 2001, over one-fifth of the tracks had been written by songwriter/guitarist Barrett. With the recent DVD release of Pink Floyd and the Syd Barrett Story,
a documentary that chronicles the life and influence of Barrett, it seems that the legend of the fallen front-man lives on.
....
Barrett has seen the documentary. "He told his sister that he really liked hearing the music and that there were a couple of people he really liked seeing in it," says Edginton.
He hopes Barrett will not be hurt by the renewed interest the film brings. "I want people to know the story of Syd and the early days of Pink Floyd but I didn't want him to suffer as a result. On balance, I think Syd was happy with it."
