"France has neither winter nor summer nor morals. Apart from these drawbacks it is a fine country. France has usually been governed by prostitutes."
---Mark Twain

More than 700 women lie naked end to end on a hillside at Byron Bay, about 200 km south of Brisbane, to form the words "no war", February 8, 2003. The women are urging Australian Prime Minister John Howard not to follow U.S. President George Bush into a war with Iraq. REUTERS/Icon Images/Peter Carrette/Handout
In a 1996 interview, Ballard described music as his medicine. "If you're looking for youth, you're looking for longevity, just take a dose of rock'n'roll," he said. "It keeps you going. Just like the caffeine in your coffee. Rock 'n' roll is good for the soul, for the well being, for the psyche, for your everything. I love it.
I can't even picture being without rock 'n' roll." Hank Ballard, 1927 (?) - 2003
From Bez's autobiography (Happy Mondays), "Freaky Dancin":
1) A Factory US representative visiting Bez's house, and on the way there coming across a gang of scallies who had stolen a bus and whilst during their runaway tour decided to aim the bus at her and mow her down. She narrowly escaped and arrived quite shaken.
2) Bez snorting soap or washing up powder by mistake or something and having to spend the whole night awake with a spoon propping up his now hugely alergically-inflated adenoids.
3) The Happy Mondays taking so many drugs that they hallucinated a beanbag was a stripper and tried to have sex with it.
"...kittens drowning in milk, pheasants wandering in freeway lanes, lumberjacks
taking chainsaws to chalkboards, firemen burning down their own
firehouses, coffee spilled on khakis, rohypnal lip balm, turtles used as
bowling balls, wheelchair racing down steep steps, smoking toenails in a
bong, wooden sparrows on trees of feathers, forks jabbed in toasters,
nobody fed the dog, lightning striking again and again in the same place
over and over." - Mark Lewman, 11/6/01
