Woman's Role in the Church

• From Acts 18 , there were high tension between Paul and the Jews during his stay in Corinth.
• The main conflict was the Law. The Jews found Paul was teaching "men to worship God contrary to the Law" (Act 18:12).
• The Jews attacked Paul and put him in front of the Roman Proconsul. The Proconsul did nothing about it since Paul did not do any criminal act. This really drove the Jews more angry and hatred toward Paul. To steam off their anger, they beat up the ruler of the synagogue (Acts 18:14-17).

  The Corinthians' Worship

• After Paul left for Ephesus, no doubt the Jews got their chance to get even and induced their Jewish tradition into the Corinthians' worship.
• You can image yourself walking into this Corinthian church. You would see a high spiritually charged worship that filled with charismatic believers who were prophesying, praying, and speaking out loud in tongue unceasingly. Most interesting of all, the women were doing these things along with the men. In the eyes of the Jews, allowing the women to speak out during worship was outrageous. They could not stand the hideous sight that the women can have same position as the men in the church. The Corinthians' worship was "contrary to their Law" (italic mine), the Jewish Law which is more appropriated. No doubt after Paul's departure, the Jews seduced the Corinthians with false teaching of keeping the women silence during worship. The Corinthians began to question validity of such teaching of silencing women during worship. They might address this question to Paul.
