My Infertility Journey

December 12, 2002 - OMIGOSH! It worked! We're pregnant!
November 25 - 28, 2002 - Had egg retrieval and transfer. Four eggs were retrieved, but only three were mature enough. Those three were fertilized via ICSI. Transferred one 6 celled, one 5 celled, and one 4 celled. All were quality A (which is the highest quality).
October 13, 2002 - Finally officially started my IVF cycle!!
October 2, 2002 - A baseline mammogram taken over the summer revealed that I had a 6 mm "density" on my right breast. I had a stereotactic breast biopsy, and the mass was benign. My RE wouldn't allow me to do IVF until it was diagnosed.
April 15, 2002 - I was admitted to the hospital for a laparascopy to remove the tubal pregnancy. The ectopic was in the left tube (and the one last October was in the right tube). My RE now recommends that we move to IVF.
April 5, 2002 – My beta levels were going down. My next appointment is April 12.
March 30, 2002 – My RE confirmed that it was another ectopic. Because I am not bleeding, we decided to do the "mex" shot.
March 19, 2002 – The beta tests revealed that I’m pregnant!!!
March 2, 2002 – I had my IUI. Whee!!
February, 2002 – Started a round of Follistm. It’s taken sub-q also, and does it hurt!
January 2002 – Last cycle of Fertinex: I ovulated but no pregnancy. End of study.
December 7, 2001 – I had a D&C to remove the "products of conception".
November 26, 2001 – The ultrasound revealed that the placenta was separating from the fetus. I was miscarrying.
November 21, 2001 – I asked for an ultrasound because I was feeling some cramping on my side. The ultrasound and bloodwork (hcg) revealed that I was pregnant again. Omigosh! WTF happened? Was it a twin from my ectopic? My doctor thinks I ovulated on October 30, and it just took that one time. She tells me not to get my hopes up. My progesterone levels are very low.
October 30, 2001 – I had my doctor’s appointment, and we went over what happened. I requested not to see the pictures of my lap. My husband and I resume "marital relations" (wink wink).
October 17, 2001 – I had a laparascopy to remove the ectopic pregnancy. We were told "no sex" until your doctor releases you.
October 15, 2001 – It’s an ectopic. We were crushed.
October 8, 2001 – OMIGOSH! The beta test revealed that I’m pregnant!
September 22, 2001 – I had my IUI.
September 2001 – At first, I didn’t respond well to the Fertinex. The shots are taken sub-q. We switched needles, and all of a sudden, I started to respond.
September 11, 2001 – All hell broke loose. We are at war.
August 2001 – Second cycle of Fertinex started.
August 2x, 2001 – My grandmother died. She was only 83 years old. Her mother lived to be 99 yaers old. I was so sad and angry.
July - August 2001 – First cycle of Fertinex: I ovulated early! Arrgh! My body has a mind of its own.
July 2001 – I joined the study!! Three months (ie. cycles) of free drugs and procedures!!
June 2001 – My blood pressure was sky high. Can’t join the study just yet. Had to wait another month.
March 2001 – I signed up for a medical study where everything is paid for. I have to lose a few lbs before I can start.
January – February 2001 – I started Repronex. Man oh man! Talk about hot flashes or mood swings. I did two cycles of Repronex. I don’t remember if I ovulated or not. I did have some good follicles.
December 2000 – I’m now unemployed!!
November 2000 – An ultrasound revealed that I had a BIG cyst on my ovary. The doctor gives me birth control pills (how ironic) to shrink it. Our plan was to start injectibles in January.
October 2000 – My RE did a hysterocopy and another HSG test. I liked the fact that she wanted to do the HSG test again because she wanted to see for herself. The hysterocopy revealed that I had a fibroid tumor, and she removed it.
August – September 2000 – We did a round of Clomid and then did two IUI’s. I didn’t ovulate.
August, 2000 – I have my first appointment with my RE. Omigosh! The medical care is totally different! When I asked her if I had PCOS, she said, "Probably", and gave me a prescription for Metformin. She didn’t blow me off like my ob/gyn did. My husband and I are tested throughly. My RE gave us a choice – either do another month of clomid or jump to injectibles. We asked to do another round of clomid. Finally, I was a participant in my infertility treatments and not just a nameless patient.
January – May, 2000 – I started to see my second ob/gyn for infertility. She gave me clomid. We tried one month of Clomid on 50 mgs, another month on 100 mgs, and two months on 150 mgs. Not once did she monitor me via ultrasounds and bloodwork. She did do a "pelvic" exam to check me for cysts, but you cannot find a cyst that way. She finally referred me to a reproductive endochrinologist. During the 3 months that I had to wait for the RE appointment, I asked my ob/gyn if I had PCOS. She said, "Yes, you probably have it, but the treatment [ie. clomid] is the same." She was so wrong! I also had an HSG test with her (which showed everything was normal).
Summer 1999 – I started to see an ob/gyn for infertility. I charted like I was supposed to. However, I fired my ob/gyn because her office kept losing my chart. "It’s at the main office", they said. Why didn’t they have it when I came for my appontment?
January 1999 – We decided that it’s time for us to start a family. It should be quick and easy, right? Wrong!
