Halloween 2003

This was the first year since I arrived in the US that I had chance to go out on Halloween! In the UK is much less of an event than in the US but seems to be catching up fast. At the start of the week I hadn't a clue how I might dress for the Friday so it was off to the store to see what ideas I might find there. My initial thought was to go as a princess ....yes don't laugh....but most of those were aimed at a rather younger age group...10-12 so that wasn't going to work. Seemed the choice was going to be between a witch and some sort of medieval dress. I spent a fun afternoon trying on several dresses till finally I found this lovely velvet red/purple dress. I was sold on the colour so then I had to find how to make it work. After much searching of the stores, I decided that this 'red devil' look was me :-). Of course the horns had to be gold sequined but I searched in vain for a gold pitchfork, next year I must start earlier !..... So with my mardi gras beads to complete the outfit I was all set.

First stop was Big Fish Two one of my favorite restaurants/bars for a light dinner and a glass of Chardonnay. Then on to the Rainbow Room to meet up with all my friends. Being Halloween and a Friday meant everyone was there so it was a continuous round of photos and chatter till we decided it was time to hit the road again and go North to Pontiac and Space nightclub.

Space had recently moved from Downtown Detroit to its new location in Pontiac and I'd been dying to go there since it opened. It was always one of my favorite places to go when it was downtown but it was not the best location for me being so far away. The new location in Pontiac was much better, so with much anticipation we set off around 10pm for Pontiac.

Parking at the new place was a breeze, either in the open lot or the adjacent parking garage, so much easier than downtown. After a short walk we joined the line to get in.............. wow....$20 cover....this had better be good !...and it was .... Inside the club was all I hoped, several bars and a tiered dance floor and GREAT music. The front bar is far enough away from the dance floor that you can chat so that’s where we started the evening. It wasn't long though before I had to hit the dance floor ....and that’s where I stayed all night .....well you have to make the most of the music ! Apart from the steep cover ( it was Halloween I suppose with a $5000 prize for the best costume) the new location was all I hoped it would be. I intend spending quite a lot of time there now so please say hi if you see me there .
