The Northwest 15th. Arkansas Infantry, Volunteers, was formed in 1993.
It was the logical outgrowth of the Prairie Grove event in 1992, which led many to want something better.
A meeting was held at the Razorback Pizza in Fayetteville, Arkansas in early 1993, with Bill Griggs as Captain, Justin Morgan (deceased) as Sergeant, Tom Mabry as Corporal, and David Shepherd, Bob Pennebaker, Dwight McDonald, and myself as Charter Members.
In late April, the first meeting and drill was held at Prairie Grove Battlefield Park, with 8 or 9 folks present. A uniform was decided upon and a short drill was held.
Several members attended area events, falling in with establshed units. From this humble beginning of 7, we have become one of the best units in the First Arkansas Battalion.

We have been fortunate in our leadership, with
Bill Griggs, David Alexander, Clint Morris, and Jim Morris as Captains.
They are gifted in working with and teaching
men the rudiments and finer points of Civil War drill
and camp life.
Bill was instrumental in nurturing the Company in
its formative years, and has now retired from
the First Arkansas Battalion.
David, or "Alex" as he prefers to be called, is also
my pard. He is retired military and is in his second
career as a Junior High School teacher.  He really
enjoys teaching  and is quite popular with parents
and students alike. He has now moved up to a
command in the Battalion
Clint has worked up through the ranks, with some
vacations in Bosnia and Afghanistan, and began his
term as Captain in 2006. He was sent to Iraq in 2007.
Jim Morris was elected Captain for the remainder of
Clint's term of office. Clint resumed as Captain in 2009.
As for myself, I've held all the NCO ranks, and was
Brevet Captain at one major event, and am now a happy

How do you become a reenactor?
First, you should be interested in the
period you'd like to be in. Many choose the American
Civil War, or,  as Congress titled it,
"The War Between The States."

Second, attend a reenactment in your area.
To find one, check with local military
parks, and inquire. You may have to
search a bit. Try GOOGLE for a start.

Third, talk with the reenactors. Find
out where their primary area of
operations is. Ask for info on their
company.

Fourth, join one that looks like
what you're interested in. Get their
help in acquiring your uniform and
acouterments. Don't rush off and
buy stuff on your own as you'll find
that a lot of junk is available.

  Approximate costs? Shoes $90 to
$135. Trowsers $100 to $150. Shirt
$50-$90. Coat $100-$150. Musket
$600 & up. Most units have loaner
programs to help you get started.
It may look like a lot, but once you
have your basic items, you're set.
Also, much of it is tax deductable!
Later, you'll probably want a tent
(Dog Tents recommended), a gum
blanket, and a couple of wool
blankets. Again, don't rush off and
buy a bunch of 'stuff' before you get
assistance!!
