Getting There
St Thomas Airport to the Orchid Court Tennis Cottage on St. John
St John, the smallest of the Virgin Islands, does not have an airport so you will land on neighboring island of St. Thomas and then travel the short distance to St. John by Ferry.
Several airlines now fly to St. Thomas (STT) from the U.S. including: American, Delta, USAir, Continental, and United Airlines.
Once you arrive at the St. Thomas airport, there are at least two ways to get to your cottage on the neighboring island of St. John:
- Take a taxi from the airport
to the Charlotte Amalie (pronounced "a-MAH-lee-ah")
ferry dock. This is approximately
a ten minute ride costing about
$5 per person, plus an additional
charge for luggage, depending
upon how many pieces you have
with you. Public ferries to
St. John depart from Charlotte
Amalie at 9:00 and 11:00 A.M.,
and 1:00, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:30
P.M. The fare is $10 per person.
The trip to the village of Cruz
Bay on St. John takes about
45 minutes.
- Take a taxi to the Red Hook
ferry dock located at the east
end of St. Thomas. This is typically
a 35-45 minute ride costing
about $12 for the first person
in a party and $9 for each additional
person. (There is an additional
charge for luggage, depending
upon how many pieces you have
with you.) Public ferries to
St. John depart from the Red
Hook Harbor every hour on the
hour with the last departure
being at midnight. The boat
trip is inexpensive ($5 per
person), short (about 20 minutes),
and you will (again) arrive
at Cruz Bay.
Many of the car rental agencies
are within walking distance from the
Cruz Bay dock, but you can always
find plenty of taxis at the dock to
take you to any agency, or, indeed,
almost anywhere on the island you
like.
