MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY
Altrusa is composed of professionals working in diversified businesses and professions some of whom
own and operate their own businesses or are practicing a profession. Our classified membership provides a wide, diversified
base of talented and energetic individuals of all ages who take great pride in serving the Kosciusko County area.
Our organization enjoys professional guidance from our member base to ensure soundly-based and professionally-executed
programs and projects.
We worked with the Kosciusko County Bar Association in 2007 to provide a series of four ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS fulfilling a grant issued by Kosciusko County Community Foundation's Giving Circle to serve economic
disadvantaged women.
Our Club was the moving force to get CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in place in Kosciusko County.
Members now serve on the Board of Directors and as volunteers. CASA serves as a special advocate to speak on a child's
behalf in abuse and neglect cases currently in Juvenile Court.
The establishment of a shelter for victims of abuse in this county was a major long-term Club project.
Many members worked long hours conducting a needs assessment, serving on committees and boards and in securing initial and
on-going funding for the shelter. The goal became a reality when the BEAMAN HOME opened its doors on July 1,
1985. We continue to support the Home financially and through volunteerism.
In the fall of 2008, we donated $600 to sponsor a student in the Warsaw Area Career Center (WACC) program.
WACC promotes nontraditional career opportunities within seven area schools by developing career pathways, new programs of
studies and opportunities for real-life experiences. The student sponsored by Altrusa is in the early childhood education
program at Ivy Tech and the donation provides funding for fees, books and supplies required by the program.
Our Club gives donations & supplies and provides volunteer services to the
following groups and organizations: Literacy Council, Mobile Meals, Boys and Girls Club, St. Anne's Mustard Seed
pantry, Council for Aged and Aging, American Red Cross, Juvenile Justice Task Force, Combined Community Servies, Circus Bus
for the Elderly, Senior Citizens' Groups and Project Independence. In addition, we award three scholarshops
each spring to worthy students for college or vocational training.
