Canyon Rye Grass

Deer grass

Deer grass to the right and  Canyon Rye to the left.  When they begin to look overgrown cut the Canyon Rye back before fall rains.   Do not cut the Deer grass too low.  Cut to about 5/8 of original size.
This is Purple Fountain Grass.  We have two plants in the parkway in direct sun.  May be cut back aggressively in in late autumn, after it has fully gone to seed, and begins to look ungainly.

Purple Fountain Grass can be trimmed at its base.

Blue Fescue is a lovely grass.
They are slow growers, but have a rare blue color.
They are especially adapted to drought but sadly it makes them acutely vulnerable to dog urine. (An ever present danger along the parkway.)

This is Blue Flax

The flowers are tiny and the stems fragile

This is the Blue Flax on the front parkway

The Blue flax has proven more indestructible than first thought.  The plants are spreading over a wide area by reseeding itself.

This is the parkway which contains Deer Grass, Berkeley Sedge, Blue Fescue, Canyon Rye, Blue Flax and (a small concession) New Zealand Rye Grass!
This area is a heavy traffic area, so we used larger plants after some intial failure.
Now the community is treating it with more care.
