The Needle Test
The idea here is to attach a needle to a thread, and hold it steadily above the expectant mother's wrist. If the
needle swings to and fro, the baby will allegedly be a boy. On the other hand, if the needle swings in a circular motion,
the baby is deemed female. (Sure, that makes sense....)
RESULT: boy
The Ring Test
In this test, the expectant mother's wedding ring is suspended above her belly by a thread, steadily. Again, a
to and fro motion indicates a boy, and a circle indicates a girl. (Why do people believe this stuff?!)
RESULT: girl
Chinese Fertility Chart
This test involves using the expectant mother's age at conception along with the month of conception to determine
the baby's gender. (It's gotta be real - it's CHINESE!) We found two versions of this method on the web, made
easy so that we merely had to enter the age and month, and voila! An Answer!
RESULT1: boy
RESULT2: girl
Pencil Test
Similar to the needle test, only this time the needle is inserted into the eraser of a sharpened pencil. (This
is much more difficult to hold steady, by the way...) This time, a back and forth (towards and away from the mother-to-be)
indicates a boy, and a side-to-side rocking indicates a girl.
RESULT: boy
Psychic
Misti's sister allegedly spoke to a psychic, who advised her that our upcoming child would be a....
RESULT: girl
Drano Test
In this test, the expectant mother's urine is mixed with crystal Drano. (It MUST be crystal Drano, not the liquid
kind!) In my mind, this one might actually have some basis in reality. I could believe that the gender of the
fetus might have some small effect on mother's urine, and that furthermore the urine's reaction with the Drano may be
likewise affected. However, a quick web-search shows that there are many different ways to interpret the results of
this test, and that it is, just like all the other tests, meaningless. (The friend that recommended this test to us,
however, swears that it has been correct 23 out of 25 times in her circle of friends. Her method of interpretation:
After the reaction, which is quite violent, settles down, if the resultant liquid is blue, the baby is a girl; if it's murky
brown, the baby is a boy.)
RESULT: boy
So, we did a total of 7 tests, 4 of which indicate "boy", and 3 of which indicate "girl".
What does this mean? ...Maybe it's time to pay for that extra ultrasound after all...
