Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a nursery. Having only three bedrooms in our home, space is limited,
so we decided to transform our office/train-room/storage-room into the nursery. We started clearing out the room as
soon as we found out we were pregnant, and construction began on Memorial Day, 2003.
We had initially planned to merely scrape the peeling paint, then prime, then repaint the room and decorate. However,
the previous owners had closed in one end of the room, expanding a small original closet, to increase the closet space.
We decided we wanted to remove the wall they had added, to open up the room a bit more. But, then we'd lose closet space
which was already at a premium. After a bit of brainstorming, we decided to cut into the deep knee-walls in the room
and construct built-in storage cabinets, to make up for the lost closet space. Quite an undertaking...

[July 28, 2003] ...I finally got the motivation to repair most of the cracked plaster, fill the old screw holes,
sand, and basically get everything ready for painting. As usual, everything takes longer than you'd think. While cleaning
up the windows, I realized many panes had glazing that had deteriorated, and there were big gaps around the panes!
We can't have our Sprout live in these conditions! So, I reglazed all the windows.
I also bought a new digital camera (Sony DSC-V1), so now the picture quality should be a bit better! Painting should
commence shortly!
[August 3, 2003] Painting is completed! We spent most every night during the week, and most of the weekend
completing the trim, the ceiling, the cabinets, and the walls. ...Still need to polish and reattach the door knob hardware,
as well as the window cranks, but we wanted to share the progress we've made!
[August 13, 2003] We got most of the furniture this weekend, and also got a rug. Curtains were hung
last week, as well. Sprout's room is looking more and more like a nursery! (We're still trying to convince Zoe
that this is not her room!)
