Stimulus and Cause
Along with the awareness of an idea is the knowledge awareness generates. Growing awareness stimulates growing knowledge, and that knowledge causes choice. That choice, in turn, causes an effect expressed in thought or action. From the initial stimulus of awareness, one thing leads to another in a never-ending chain of cause and effect. What "another" is depends upon the choices made.
