Reiki: A way to learn 'the listening'
What is Reiki?
In its simplest form you do Reiki already, when you hold your toe if you just dropped something on it, or put your hand on your elbow if you just banged it.

Reiki is the life force energy.  It runs through your palms like energy through a hose.  Getting Reiki attunements enlarges the size of the 'hose' so that more energy can get through to whatever needs help. Sometimes it just activates your 'listening/observing', and other times it promotes relief of some sort. Dr. Andrew Weil has recommended it for pain relief and shortening recovery time from surgery, and studies are beginning to show these and other beneficial effects of Reiki.

Cat With a Heart Murmur I credit Reiki with my skills in medical intuitive insight. For example, a client came to me very concerned about a cat with a heart murmur. A visit to the veterinary cardiologist was scheduled, but the wait for the appointment had them worried.

Reiki, which I do during every consultation, helps me to be aware, to hear information from the animal. In the communication, the cat showed me there was a murmur, but it was not a problem (no functional mixing of blood between the oxygenated and deoxygenated chambers). However, one chamber of the heart was significantly thickened compared to the other three.

My drawing matched the cardiologist's drawing.  I drew a picture of the heart/chambers and description of the bowed-in oddity of the valve at the top of it (not the valve with the murmur). I mailed the picture and notes to the client. Later she mailed me back the cardiologist's drawing from the ultrasound. It was identical to mine in function, appearance, and description. (The good news was that the cardiologist prescribed beta blockers to help the cat.)

Reiki For All of Us Reiki can be a journey to increased awareness and connection with ourselves, our animals, our families. If you only used it for stress relief, so much of quality and quantity of life is improved by reducing the effects of negative stress.

Anyone Can Learn Reiki Even babies and animals can get the attunements and feel the energy. It is not a verbal or learned skill, it is a gift from your teacher, transferred by the attunements. My one caution is to find a teacher who will teach the three degrees individually. The processing and assimilation time between each level is very important.

If you learn Reiki, it may not work the same for you as for me, it may accentuate some other skill of yours, you will see! Stick with it, it is very important to do Reiki on yourself every day, don't just do it for others. It will help you to heal yourself, which is the responsibility of all of us. It can 'calibrate' you because you can sense what is happening inside you at the same time as you feel the Reiki sensations in your hands.

What you feel while sharing Reiki with others  Don't be surprised if you have non-verbal sensations that are hard to describe or remember. Our brains are primarily trained to remember verbal and visual sensations. Even now, after over 3000 hours doing Reiki, I still feel like I have an incomplete 'dictionary' in my hands - it's like I have the words, but not the definitions (except for a few, like an inflammation signature).

Everyone's journey with Reiki can be quite unique and rewarding. If you have studied Reiki before, especially with someone who gives all three degrees in a weekend, please consider trying it again, with someone who will give individual attention to each of the three levels, and give you some months or even years in between levels to really appreciate the value of each stage of your learning.

Geronimo, another horse who loved Reiki
Reiki For a Lame Horse
As time goes on, Reiki helps me more and more to hear, see and sense what the animals experience and know about their own bodies. A client had me do a Reiki session for her horse, who had been lame for 6 months. The horse had been examined by three vets and they were not able to determine the source of the lameness, and it was not improving.

The horse showed two views.
While I did the Reiki session, in person, but mostly with my hands near but not touching the body, the horse showed me something very interesting. She said that her pelvis was both rotated forward, and tilted out, away from where it should be. When the client reported that to her main vet, he said, 'Oh that means there is an overstretched pelvic ligament,' and he knew what to do for that.

This horse had an idea of how her body was supposed to be, versus how it actually was (due to injury). She had two overlapping pictures. While doing Reiki I could see where the pictures were the same and where they differed.

The animals can see inside us too. I once did a communication with a horse in a large pen. We asked her if she would like to be spayed, because she had exceptionally difficult seasons, and the surgery was an option we were describing to her.

When we got to the part about what organs would be removed, she walked up to the one woman of the four in the pen who had had a hysterectomy, nosed her belly and said, "You mean, it would be like this?"

We were all amazed! So the next time your animal knows when you don't feel well, enjoy the connection you are sharing.
